540Power value

I have this 540 Power and am looking to sell it.

Bought it in October of '88, did the basement-band thing and goofed around for maybe a year, but the self-taught thing didn't go too well and to say this is lightly used is an understatement. It's in excellent condition and I was just hoping you guys might give me some insight as to what it's worth. I already contacted someone that said they were looking for one so they'll get first crack at the asking price, but still need help figuring out what that is. More pics are at

Re: 540Power value

Expect to get between $350 and $475 depending on condition. Yours being in near mint I would expect it being in the higher end of that spectrum.

Re: 540Power value

I would say these are more worth than any RG from the same period. I've had one myself, and they are very good guitars. I sold mine for $500, beat up, in Norway. A mint one could probably fetch closer to the double.

Re: 540Power value

Thanks all, that's sweet news. I figured this was the place to find out. I'll keep the thread up for a few days to gather feedback and come up with an asking price. It sounds like there might be some demand, in which case, I might go the auction route. I'll have to read the forum rules again and then will decide whether to post it in the classifieds or not. Thanks again for the replies so far.

BTW, it might be a little hard to tell, but the guitar is magenta, not red. The red Power of this vintage was a double humbucker, IIRC.

Re: 540Power value

Who says Ibanez guitars don't retain their value.

it wouldn't really be worth it after all the shipping and import taxes...

Re: 540Power value

Eh, yes it would. That's probably why so many of us buy Suhr, Anderson, PRS, Don Grosh and the likes one private import. The prices are ridiculously low. I myself have bought many guitars from the US, and I can resell them with a profit for less than what a buyer will consider to be a good price.

I would say it is worth it, well worth it.

I've got the same guitar. Mine WAS magenta, but is now swirled (thanks to the winning ticket at Jemfest 2001). Great guitar.

Re: 540Power value

Just remove the rear cover to see if you've got it with the original ibanez backstop: It's a valuable item.
