7 string or Baritone?

Anybody here have both a Baritone and a 7 string? What do you prefer? I am thinking of getting a 28 5/8" conversion neck for one of my guitars but wonder if I should just get a 7 string instead.

I guess it just depends on what you need it for. If your doing nothing but rhythm and only use the lower 3 strings a baritone would be fine, but if you need the bottom end and the top end for soloing a 7 string is where its at.

That's a pretty tough call. I think baritones have a different feel to them. I personally would say a 7 because it's a pretty similar animal to a 6 string, meaning you can at least compensate with regular tunings whereas I feel a baritone kinda limits my playing to lower tunings.

Yeah go on to Ikebe-gakki or Ishisbashi and get one of those RGEXTREAM Models. The fixed bridge one has 28" or 27" neck and EMG's AND 7 Sttings.

Or get a 7 and get and extension neck if you doint like EMG's.

Re: 7 string or Baritone?

Baritone is more piano-like because of the extended scale, but this can feel weird. Today I actually played an OLP baritone tuned to B. Very good for open or single-string clean sections, but really hard to play in an articulated style.

7-string gives you the range of your normal 6-string and more. If it's too floppy you can go up gauges if need be. That or there's 26.5 scale models which doesn't feel like too big a difference

I have a baritone 7-string, and I'm telling ya', that's the way to go! It handles B-standard like a regular guitar handles E-standard, and it's versatile with the 7-strings as well. 7-string baritone!

Well, I have an eight string (Ibanez RG2228 ) and a 28 5/8" baritone six string (Steinberger Synapse TranScale), and with the utmost, 100%, passionate and logical honesty:

I wish I had a 30 1/3" baritone eight string... seriously.

Variant,
Do you use distortion with your baritone? I am thinking of going the 7-string baritone route as well? I have heard that most people love the clean sound of the baritone but don't really like the sound with distortion. How hard was it to adjust to the longer scale length?

Re: 7 string or Baritone?

I took me 10min or so to get used to the scale. I actually prefer that scale to my other guitars which have a 25.5", it just suits me better.
