7 String Pickups - Are stocks *ok* or does it need to be rep

This question really goes out to anyone who has upgraded their pickups on their Ibanez's. I'd really like an EMG but i hate the fact I have to route the guitar to do so. Has anyone installed an EMG 707 on their Universe?
Dimarzios would be a better choice for me as it can be directly installed w/o routing. Has anyone replaced 'em with a Blaze custom or an Evolution 7 in either/or/and neck and bridge positions?

7 String Pickups

If you use another Dimarzio then it should a direct wire for wire replacement(all wires color coded the same). With the emg thing, I would really want to try the pickup first before routing out an rg7 but with a uv I would feel a little safer(sp?) because with a uv you have a pickguard to cover your routing work and with a uv all you need is a second pickguard and with a little sodering your back to stock or another dimarzio or sd and with the routing covered your good to go. *

7 String Pickups

I have EMG 707s in my Universe. And yes they ****in rock! Unlike common mis-conceptions the 707 has a great clean and distorted sound. I have a mesa boogie Triple REctifier and I really have screwed with the sound to make it what i like. The neck pickup is actually quite clean, and from what I have read about the 707, it was a 81/85 combo, not just a 7 string version of the 81. It is really good.

Chris, Did you modify the Unverse's pickguard to fit the 707 or did you have to special order a pickguard for it to fit? Is your universe fully equipped with EMG's?
