7620 vs. 1077XL sound?

Ok, so I've decided to buy the Line6 Floorboard first, but eventually I'm getting a 7-string. If the 7620 is still there, I'll probably buy that. But if not (or I decide I've changed my mind), does the RG-1077XL basically sound like a 7620 with more variety (cuz of middle SC)? How much would I expect to pay for one? Also, anyone have sound samples of a 1077XL doing heavy rhythm?

I would expect that if they've got the same humbuckers, they'll sound very similar. The added single coil and different switching will obviously give you different tones in the "in between" positions, but you can always modify the wiring to get the exact combinations you want. The exteneded scale length of the 1077XL will give you a tighter bottom end.

I've seen the 1077XL at Steve's in Toronto for about C$1500, but the last time i was in there, they were trying to blow out their overstock of 7-strings. I know Rich had prices that were comparable after shipping and taxes, but he included the UV case and his outstanding setup.

They're gorgeous guitars... i'd take a 1077XL over a 7620 any day if i were really into the RG body style. The metallic blue with full binding and those offset abalone dots is super-classy.

Thanx!! I've made my decision, the 7620 can stay hanging there. Maybe I'll consider it if I'm looking for a second 7-string someday and it's still there.

i have played the 1077 & it's simply a darling. however, the longer scaled neck induces lethargy easily (especially if you are of the shredder breed... ). what i hear from the 1077 is more pronounced definition- the notes from the lower registers are much clearer than the 7620's. this is largely attributable to its neck...

however, my 7620 & me will not part. i have recently revised my set-up (just gotten a 4X12 v-30 equipped cab) & my 7620 sounds very good to me. it just goes to show that if you have a proper set-up for your tone (not just for your guitar), then it'll be ear candy for you all the time...

Luckily, I'm not a shredder. Not by choice, by lack of skill. Besides, I was raised on Metallica.
