Question '96 RGR 620, is this real?

There's a guy selling this guitar, but I've never heard about it before. He says it's an RGR 620, made in 1996. The control configuration looks the same of the JPM, is that original?

Also, if this guitar is real, does anyone know the specs of body, neck and frets?

Never heard of it until this thread, but a quick search seems to show that there are others out there...

Pretty cool looking ibanez, regardless.

Cheers!

Re: '96 RGR 620, is this real?

very real.
I had two before.

how much he wants for it?

body : ash, heavy.
neck type : listed as wizard, but feels thicker than original wizard, probably japanese Wizard II type.
originally comes with QM 1 and QM2 pickups
trem : lo pro edge

super bright guitar for sure, you may want to put some dark-warm sounding pickups in there.

I'm GASing for it,, but it's not cheap, here in Brazil he's asking for almost as much as a Jem 7VWH, and without the hardcase. The guy said the original pickups were replaced for a PAF and a Fred.

Any guess about the fretwire?

Could you tell me more about this Japanese Wizard II profile?

Re: '96 RGR 620, is this real?

for as much as a jem, you'd better take a jem.

fretwire is jumbo, standard ibanez jumbo.

The neck is felt somewhat thicker than original wizard, not much thick, but slightly thicker.
I'd guess it 18mm insted of 17mm, but I never actually measured it.
It's just my feeling.

the original wiring from this guitar also copied JPM style wiring, where the middle switch position connected both humbuckers in split model.

I actually loved this guitar, but it's just too bright.

it also comes in 3 different finish : trans black and trans purple ( which I owned), and natural.

I have a 7VWH, and I currently own a Music Man JP6 too. I like the controls placement and the 3-way switch with the both humbuckers splitted, but I largely prefer the Ibanez neck, frets (JP6 has fairly small frets) and looks. A JPM would be my first choice, but it has a narrower fretboard, and the ones I found had astronomical prices. That's why I'm GASing for this guitar, is loved the wood finish too.

The pictured one is a trans purple?

Brighter than a 7VWH?
Also, how would you compare the weight?

yes, that one in the picture is trans purple.

I never owned 7VWH, in fact I never own any jems, so I don't have any idea is it brighter than a 7VWH or not.
but it's definitely brighter than any basswood RG I ever owned.

I don't think he's really interested... I asked for fresh pictures with the current pickups, since the pictures above were taken more than 1 year ago. He didn't take them. Also, he's asking for almost the price of a newer Jem, because "this guitar is so rare". Some guys showed interest, but he said the same to them, and they gave up too.

That sucks man. Also that price does seem rather high seeing as there was one sold in Russia(or was in japan) for way way wayy less.
