AANJ?? - Who made the first?

If the title and description aren't enough, who started to produce guitars with all access neck joints? Just curious since I was wandering around EdRoman's site and he claims he made the thing and no other guitar has it other than his pearlcaster.

AANJ??

Ed Roman also claims that he invented the set-through neck (neck through where the body piece is capped so it doesn't interrupt the look of the top).

He's a great luthier, no doubt, but take everything he says with a grain (or a 10 pound bag) of salt.

AANJ??

I'm pretty sure that Eddie invented the wheel, the internet, sliced bread, trees, and Steve Vai's fingers, too.

AANJ??

His site says that he also invented the ball bearing (I know it is really made by Hipshot) tremolo that is "way" better than vintage and knife edge designs. Speaking of ball bearing trems, are there any Floyd copies that utilize ball bearings intead of knife edges. The idea seams promising.

AANJ??

* * *I thought that Kahler Pro trems were ball bearing. *You can find them on a lot of guitars from the 80's and ESP and Jackson still offer a few... *
* * Does anyone have a diagram of how it works by the way? *I've never had the pleasure of taking one apart.

AANJ??

I was thinking that ball bearing or ball and socket trems would be more "efficient" than ones that use knife edges.

AANJ??

Vigier Guitars, a fine french company, offers ball-bearing floating trems as standard on their floating trem models (and THEY claim to have invented it too, i think)

I've been toying with the idea of getting one, but i'm wondering how much it'll cost to ship to Canada...

other than that, i'm not sure of other brands that offer em on their guitars...

AANJ??

Is Ed Roman a luthier??

If he is, I actually wasn't aware of it (quite apparent I don't spend any time at his site), personally he comes across as someone who couldn't luthier his way out of a paper bag, and just lives off the backs of other luthiers.

Anyway....
If I was looking to find the first use of AANJ style joints I'd look at Bass manufacturer's.
Many Bass guitars have been employing AANJ style for donkey's years, not to mention the most beautiful neck through designs.
