Acute Gas Acquisition: RG550 DY

I didn't crave one of these... well not until I saw it on craigslist. I mean it was 250 bucks, it had EMG's in it, and it came with the original Ibanez case. Well, she needed some cleaning, it has Paul Gilbert's signature on the front, WHYGOD WHY DO PEOPLE ASK FOR AUTOGRAPHS ON THE FRONT OF THE GUITAR!?!?!?!, and has the neck cracks/nut bolt crack on the back. Nothing serious. The paint is a little faded on the body and there's all these stains on the maple fretboard, anybody know how to get these out?

She cleaned up surprisingly well. After I got all the green, yes green, gunk off the frets, and replaced all the rusty screws, cleaned and derusted the entire trem, added new knobs, and put the proper nuts on it, she looks pretty damn good!!!

Nice DY. I've lusted for one of those or a RFR, since I first saw them, years ago.

Not a huge fan of EMG pickups in general. This one has the 60 in the neck, 85 bridge, and some other one in the mid. They sound good. They're growing on me as I play them more and more. This guitar plays great. It's an 1987 and I find the neck to be not as thin as my S540LTD, or RG770DX. Maybe just in my head? The body feels MUCH heavier too. The action is unbelievable, there's no fret buzz whatsoever. The tone is even, and loud. A very high quality instrument.

I think I like this one more than my RG2550e, despite that one being in mint condition, with my favorite pups in it, Humubucker from Hell, and Fred in bridge. These old Ibanezes got that MOJO!!!

well if you decide that you want to take out the EMGs, I might be interested in the single coil.
