Question Advice needed!

Hi folks,
I've been playing for two years now with an Epiphone G400.
Lately I've been listening to Dream Theater, G3, Petrucci and Vai stuff so I felt the need for a new guitar.
I'll probably keep the G400 (as I'll probably slap in it some DiMarzios).
I'm searching for a more modern and versatile guitar, that could handle both good clean tones and mainly smooth higain sounds (particularly Petrucci,Vai,Satch tones)...
By the way, with my band I go from progressive to metal.
What i dislike the most of my G400 is the feel: really big neck, sloppy pickups.
So, i went searching for some new guitars and these are what particularly caught my attention.

- Ibanez Rg1570
- Ibanez S470
- Ibanez SA (...not sure about this one,as it's more of strat type)

A friend of mine told me to buy a Mexico Strat and then replace the pickups, but i'm not convinced on this one.

I'm so confused
My budget is 650Ä max...Can you give me some advice? How's the S470?
Any suggestions are welcome.
Thanks in advance for the help.

Well if you look for high gain and high output, I do not think you would want a Strat. The Mexicos come if many different quality grades and tend to be more vintagy in sound.

If you look for a metal shredder guitar I would go with the RG and possibly replace the pickups when you get some cash together again (standard pups are not so bad). I cannot say much about the S as I never tried it, maybe someone else can give advice on the S-Series.

Well, thanks for the response.
I'm not looking for a metal shredder...I need a good all-round guitar.
650Ä is 935$.

Re: Advice needed!

There's nothing wrong at all with the S. If 22 frets don't bother you check it out. I don't particularly care for the ZR trem, but that's my opinion. It's a great all around guitar though. I mainly play RGs because I like 24 frets and the trems on them. You could get a really nice 1550, 1570, 2550, or 2570 for that money. That being said the 350's are great too. I've not played a stock 350, so you might want to replace the pickups with something else, but for the price you can't beat a 350 in my opinion.

Re: Advice needed!

Hmm...
So the choice is now between the RG1570 and the S470.
Unfortunately my store has only the RG... i'll have to try it.
I think also that i'll buy it from ****. (damn, it censored teh bay!)
As for the 350, i'll try it from my cousin in a week. (I think that the 1570 is just better than the 350, so i'll stick with it for now).

If my store only had the S, damnit.

PS: If someone has the S then post your opinion please!
PSS: I think 24 frets will be needed.

Re: Advice needed!

You're giving me an idea
I could now get the 1570 and then sell the G400 for an S guitar.
GAS kills.

Re: Advice needed!

If you're looking for a new guitar, 650euros won't reach the 1570 price tag. If I were you I'd get the S470 or the S520 (it looks cooler IMO, and has H/H setup)

check it here http://www.thomann.de/gr/ibanez_s520exoxf.htm

633Ä for a 1570 black + case included.
The 520ex is just too...metal-ish.

No problem glad to help
O.K. for $935 you can get a SWEET guitar. I argee with tank
in that a rg is VERY versatile. My pick would be a early
rg550 with an original wizzard neck,if you like a thinner neck, or a wizzardII
for a little thicker neck. Go with a maple fret board if you want
a little brighter tone. I would go with an edge or lo-pro edge bridge.
Pickups are VERY subjective. I have a '87 rg550/maple neck/lo pro bridge
with a evo in the bridge and a paf pro in the neck(I'm not using a middle pickup)
For tone options I have the JS1000 mods for the pickups, the
single coil switch and high pass filter switch using the push/pull
vol and tone knobs. That guitar gives me soooo many tone options ...
I like the original RGs as they are brining more $ now days..

You asked about the "S" guitars, well I have a '87 S (maroon) and it's very
light and feels so differant than my other guitars. It sounds really good.
Not a bad choice...but I like the 550 better. You should be able to get
a sweet RG or S with some good aftermarket pick ups with $ left over
for $935...

i personally prefer the Wizard I neck vs. the Wizard II. it's all preference though. the older S540's also have mahogany bodies, and better trems, aka the original Edge's. With that kind of money, you could buy an excellent model, there is an AWESOME S540 on that online site right now.
