Alder or Mahogany body for my Ibanez project.

Hi guys!
Until now I was playing on my Ibanez guitars, all with basswood bodies.
Now decided to change the wood on one of the guitars.

The question is: Alder or Mahogany body?

What tone change I should expect , I really like singing mids and highs...
In fact I love the sound of basswood, just need a little more overtones and a pinch of "that Fender" tone...

What i saw is that the most of hi-end ibanez guitars like J Custom are made from mahogany...

Here is my hi gain tone from my Ibanez Basswood guitar

What is your opinion and advice?

Thanks,
Dimi

From the way you described what you want in tone, it seems like alder is right for you. Mahogany imo is a little darker than basswood. I do love basswood but I do like alder a lot also. Vai's Evo is alder and his Flo is basswood (because it use to be an FP), maybe you can use that fact to compare basswood and alder via vai. :P

If you want Fender sound the Alder is the way to go. I don't know about nowadays but the old Strats were pretty much all Alder.

Alder all the way. Mahogany is great...in a 24 3/4 scale guitar with preferably a hardtail and maple cap. Maybe some day I'll change my mind, but I would never dream of having Mahogany in anything even remotely RGish or Stratish.

Wow,thanks for the great response guys!
Maybe I should try some guitars in live first...
But the alder specification sounds the right choice to replace my basswood body.
