To all J-Custom afficianados....
So I'm trying to solve a serial number dilemma. I have an early J-custom that in the neck pocket of the body is stamed HKRG1502. It's a two hum config. Neck is the typical early J-custom one piece maple with volute, black headstock that says "J-custom" etc... The serial is one I've not been able to identify. 603779 underneath it "Made in Japan". Underneath the fretboard on the side that buts up to the neck cavity in the body it's stamped RGC308.
At one time, back when I got the guitar, I had thought that it was a '96 production that was made for the 97 release of the J-customs but I'm just not 100% on this. I know when I got the guitar I had done a little bit of research here and elsewhere and thought I had determined that it was just that. A j-custom built in 96 for the 97 release of the guitars.
I have found somone who wants to purchase the guitar and I don't want to lead him astray so I would like to be able to explain to him why an F is missing in the serial #. I guess for my own piece of mind, I'd like to know too. Just never thought about it too much as it's always been a perfect guitar. I also recall reading somewhere that the serial #'s were at times a bit "off" in the early days. Any help on this would be greatly appreciated!
