is it all metal?

i am looking for a new guitar and have been thinking of going for a seven string. my current guitar is a tele and it can handle everything from jazz to metal. if i get a 7 string will it be capeable of different styles, or will i find that it only likes churning out bladder bursting metal riffs (which isn't a bad thing, just not what i want). also, will i find it hard to ajust to the neck?
i have been looking at an ibanez 1527. does anbody have any ideas, comments or advice on anything i have said? i would be grateful for any help.
my budget is £600-700.

Re: is it all metal?

when i had a 7 string i kinda disliked all my old 6 strings, as they didnt feel right to me, like there was something missing ( a 7th string ;D)
and i would recommend you going for a hardtail 7 string. saves you lot of time and trouble...of course thats just my 2 cents

Cambridge Mass or England?

While I do the occasional metal bit myself, I play in sorta a Satchy/Gilmoury vibe on my seven with no problems. UV's and RG's are surprisingly versatile guitars - I've even done jazz gigs with my old 7620vk, and it was my primary guitar while playing in a blues/rock band. The rest of the guys in the band didn't seem to mind.

Re: is it all metal?

My S 7420 seems to be a versatile guitar, although, I do well with my UV and RG 7620 .
They are all great instruments. Perfect for any music. You should be able to pick up a used S or RG or even an RG 7420 and a 1527 for your budget.

Re: is it all metal?

I would say that it all depends on the condition of the instrument. If you can find a used guitar that's not too terribly old that's in really good condition then it's going to be a better instrument than a new guitar of a lower caliber.

I would agree with this. All else being equal, I'd take a better used over a lesser new.

My RG2027, equipped with an Air Norton 7 neck, and Duncan JB 7 bridge, as well as piezo pickups, is extremely versatile. Does jazz surprisingly well, and can cop a good blues/southern rock feel with the five-way switching. Of course,it excels at meTal

Re: is it all metal?

My UV7PWH does the lot- it is surprisingly versatile. I love my new Soloway Swan with the long scale and fixed bridge too, so the UV is for sale and within your range (Ä1000). The neck doesn't need much getting used to. I can send you some pics if you're interested.

Re: is it all metal?

Jim Soloway played jazz on an RG7421XL w/ 27" scale. About as metal looking as you can get, but it sounded awesome.

This 20 year old kid at work picks up an American Tele with the standard layout, 3 saddle bridge, and rips out some incredibly convincing Dimebag-esque riffs at insane speeds. Amazing.

Bottom line, it's not the instrument, it's the player (imo).

Re: is it all metal?

Its the old "tone is in the fingers, not the equipment" stuff again. I fully believe what Polaris just said, it dont matter what the guitar is, if your good enough you should be able to play anything on anything. It shouldnt really matter what ya play. Just because a guitar is "meant" or "suited" to play a certain type of music, it dont mean thats all you can use it for.
