Allen wrenches stored on back of headstock

Was this ever a factory thing or did someone add this on?

Convenience.

Although I can imagine some people saying it would change the tone.

It costs 5 dollars so who cares if it comes from factory or not?
Yeah and for those people, it really changes the tone cause you know you're guitar will sound more ...............metal.
How many times I heard a player or song and thought.........hmm that guitar has an allen wrenches holder

Are you sure it costs 5 dollars or are you just being an obnoxious tool again? Never seen someone with so much useful information on some posts turn around and act like a douche the next one as much as you do. (yeah yeah I know you don't care...blah...blah...blah, you'll keep on being a dick if you want...blah...blah)

I've seen Ibanez guitars with 2 allen wrenches attached like that factory, but not a whole damn toolbox like that

It's an Ibanez holder, not factory installed.

I hate the wrench holder. That is what the case is for. Just my opinion.

On all of my guitars, if there is a wrench holder, I don't use them. Just don't like them.

Same here, I've seen factory units that hold 2, but not 4

I can see this was going down the track of "I want to see more about playing on this forum, not just gear", but nobody's making you read a thread about allen wrenches.

Who cares if it comes from the factory or not? Well obviously ironfistx is showing interest in that matter. Who are any of us to question why he wants to know? If we know the answer, it's a lot simpler just to give it to him than question it.

Re: Allen wrenches stored on back of headstock

It's a Gotoh piece, in fact, made to be companion to their bridge systems and their various metric hex keys needed to unlock and adjust.
The only down-side to some who don't prefer it is the required 2 small screw holes into the back of the headstock.
One of my nifty little accomplishments was to come up with a way of using these (really like having those onboard each instrument, truth told) without having to put any holes in the headstock. (I think I posted a picture years ago, but I believe it was hosted on a now-defunct web service...)
I just wish I'd come up with that before putting a couple of those directly to the headstocks, as above =]

Does anyone have an alternative to the wrench holder? I've been looking for one so I don't have to screw or glue my guitar.

Re: Allen wrenches stored on back of headstock

Yeah it's called pocket but be careful cause Allen is heavy, his mom used to call him her little Buddha
Some use guitar cases, some their wallets, options are endless, i know you can think of one all by yourself.

Double stick tape......it will hold for years, but cleans right off when your done with it.

Re: Allen wrenches stored on back of headstock

I actually saw a J-Craft neck through guitar today that had one of those Allen wrench storage things on the neck.

btw, the back of this guitar neck was cut high where it met the body, giving the easiest access to the 24th fret I've ever seen. Are all Team J-Craft Ibanezes like that?

Its a handy device, I used to have a Kramer American Custom Pacer that had one - I'm constantly forgetting or losing the Allen Wrenches.
