Amazing but...Impressed with the Epiphone LP Standards!

Just got back from trying out a few Epi LP Standards and i have to say i was quite impressed! Fit,finish and especially the fret work was very nice on all the ones i tried and even the setups were good! For $399 i`m definitly thinking about getting one after the holidays. Can anyone give me the low down on these such as woods,ect...i know these are MIC but i would have never guessed.

My only advice would be try a PRS SE Custom before you plonk down money on an Epi Les Paul.........

Too bad someone couldn't sucker you into trading the PRS for an Epi Standard . . .

I had good luck with a Limited Epi flame top. It played great, sounded great and looked very nice.

I'd take a PRS any day; I couldn't even imagine owning an Epiphone.

And i would have done it too! IMO their pretty equal,i guess i just prefer the look of the Les Paul more! Seriously these LP Standards were sweet, sure you can/should upgrade the pups and switch/jack but the same can and is said about the PRS SE`s! In fact, the LP`s have better tuners (Grovers)then the SE`s and the fretwork which you would think would be better on the SE`s is just as good on the Epi`s!

You know were talking about the SE`s right, not the USA made PRS`s?
And not the lower end Epi`s like the JR,Special,ect.....

I have a couple of Epiphones, a Sheraton (335 type) and the G1275 double neck. I can vouch for them being good quality for the money! Never tried an SE though... Actually not that keen on PRS's full stop (period).

I had a Sheraton for a bit. Honestly in retrospect I wish I would've held onto it. Mayhaps if I can Find one some time in the future I'll snatch it up. I'd put a bigsby on it and find some nice warm sounding pickups.

Re: Amazing but...Impressed with the Epiphone LP Standards!

Epiphones are Epiphones to me. An SE is still a PRS even if it isn't made in the USA. It's a smart business plan to sell an affordable PRS rather than just the high end deal; Paul is bright guy. The SE is a phenomenal guitar series for low budget. I would still take an SE over an Epiphone any day.

That's like saying Ibanez are Ibanez. You know there is far more to it than that.

Ibanez IS Ibanez.
Epiphone is Gibson.
Squier is Fender.

I'm not trying to hijack the thread here. They're just not for me.

Re: Amazing but...Impressed with the Epiphone LP Standards!

Well here's a quick playing percentage for you....

When I play guitar I play my Jem777DY 2% of the time and my Epi LP custom 98% of the time. So if they're so poor quality then how come a seasoned player of 24yrs prefers his to his Jem?

Go for it, they're great guitars one you swap out the pickups, wiring and tuners. Even before you do that they're still pretty good.
