Another creation.... - Lace wood top, Mahog body....

I bought this body on ebay for 112 bucks. Trans Red, Lacewood top, Mahoganney body. I have a neck from a 570 coming and gold hardware.

The guitar that vai will be auctioning soon (red lace) will be the model for this guitar. It should look just like it when it is done.

I will post pictures when I am finished.

Any suggestions on pickups that will match nicely with the body woods...

PS - *I already have a 2 guitars with EVO in it, one with a Full shred and 2 with Breeds. *I want all my guitars to have a different tonal quality to them. All my other guitars are Alder or Basswood.

Well Dimarzio confirmed to me that the Tone Zone in bridge position works well with mahogany bodied guitars (but can get a little mushy when playing through a large boogie (unless it's a smaller boogie i.e nomad, then it's ok), and with that you should hopefully get some lush warm tones.

No suggestions for a neck though.

I like the Air Norton and Tone Zone in mahogany/maple....I suspect is would be nice as well with lace. *Looking forward to hearing about and seeing the results.

I'm planning on the Tone Zone in the bridge of mine, but it has no top, just solid mahog so I'm a little worried that I'll lose some clarity and the mush will take over, may try a Steve's special instead.
I can imagine the lacewood top will have a similar reaction as maple for instance.

Although the Tone Zone is probably my favorite pickup in the world... it seems those Steve's Special jobs cut through on Mahogany more. *You can get some jazzy nice clean tones if you combine it with the neck pickup and some coil splitting action. *Oh yeah, Air Norton for the neck. *I don't think anyone makes another neck pickup besides this guy.

I have a USRG30 with a quilted top and mahagony body and I replaced the Tone Zone and the PafPro with EMG's (81 & 85). I'm so glad I did!! My USRG screams!!
