Another happy RGA121 owner

Like someone had posted earlier, I thought this guitar was out of my price range($900) and was initially going to check out the BC Rich mockingbird special. Didn't like the mockingbird but decided to test out the RGA because I had never played one before. After plugging in and testing it out, I loved it. I saw that it had some scratches on it so I asked the sales guy what he could do on the price. I was floored when he said $450,so needless to say I bought it. I am extremely happy with it although I do think I'm going to put a set of duncans in it (JB/59). I have a RG520QS that sounds great with that combo. I do have one question for you guys. What do you put on the fretboard, mine seems kind of dry looking unless thats just the way it's supposed to be. They didn't have another one to compare it to but my fretboard on my RG520 is a lot darker.

I like bore oil (for woodwind instruments). I picked this tip up from Rich of Ibanezrules.com; I highly recommend it.

Re: Another happy RGA121 owner

I suppose it depends on your definition of heavy, but mine weighed less than my '80's RG.

Definitely one of the best "out of the box" Ibanez I ever had.

I use bore oil too. Roche Thomas Premium Fingerboard Oil.

Do a search for it. It's cheap, works extremely well, is good for the wood, and a little bottle lasts a long time.

Congratz on the axe, great price! I'm picking up one this week myself.

Re: Another happy RGA121 owner

Thanks for the replies on treating the fretboard. To answer the question about the guitars weight, it is lighter than my RG520QS but not by much. I would highly recommend this guitar to anyone, especially if you can get it at a marked down price that the natural models seem to be selling for.

Re: Another happy RGA121 owner

Congrats on the guitar. I would probably buy one if I had a little extra dough.

I use stuff called Halloway House Lemon Oil. You can find it at any grocery store. Its used for hardwood floors. Plus it leaves your fretboard smelling like lemons.

Re: Another happy RGA121 owner

I found some of the LeBlanc bore oil and will try that when I do my next string change.

Re: Another happy RGA121 owner

The stock pickups are starting to grow on me too, might just keep them instead of getting the duncan jb/59 set. I tell you, the more I play this guitar, the more I'm liking it!
