Talking Another Pawnshop Find!!!!

Found this at the old Pawn Shop and I had to snap it up. 1986 Ibanez RS 420, in pretty much pristine new condition, with original case and trem bar. Not a scratch on it and it still has yellow nasty looking plastic on the back control cover. Anyone know what this color is called, its like a metallic pink.

Nice one!! That's a great find especially in that condition. You are having a great run recently when it comes to pawn shops. Not 100% sure on the colour but I think it might be known as Cherry Ice.

Yes, the colour is Cherry Ice. Great colour, and great guitar! Worth noting it's RG420, not RS.

Really? That's an RG? The name was introduced before the shape with the pointy horns we know and love?

And yes, it's in great shape. Nice find!

Peace

Mike

I think the stamp on the back of the headstock might be a clue.

Indeed. And I had the one humbucking version of this in the same colour, RG410. Nice guitar.

I liked everything about those pre-RG Roadstars EXCEPT...the pre-Edge bridges. Especially that's no good stinking piece of crap Powerr'cker. JACK SMASH!

Re: Another Pawnshop Find!!!!

^ That sure looks like an Edge to me
The 1986 RG410 I got for my dad had an Edge as well.

Re: Another Pawnshop Find!!!!

This guitar got a genuine Edge bridge. But then again, I guess it's not considered pre-RG.

It is indeed an Edge bridge, but kind of an odd one, the fine tuners are smaller then I am used to, there are a couple other oddities too, can't think of them now. Must be a VERY early version of the Edge. Its a great guitar and I love the color, but if I am gonna keep it, these pickups have got to go, maybe some purple DiMarzio's of some sort, or maybe some actives like EMG. Still deciding....

Re: Another Pawnshop Find!!!!

Freaking yes!! I want a pink something from '86, don't really care what.

There's one like it on the bay with a $500 BIN, I imagine you got yours for a got bit less .

1986 was when the RG monkier was introduced, and the first year of the Edge - some differences from later ones include longer block as the guitars were non-recessed; different fine tuner spring plate; and no locking studs.

I like the bridge IBZ pu - hot and fat, good for harder music; the neck is blah though.

Agreed. Though you're perhaps thinking Pro Rock'r, which was on the upper end guitars; the Power Rocker was on 100-200 models, and the Holdsworth. Anyway, the only good Pro Rock'r is one that is decked with 5 springs.

The routing and post spacing make retrofitting other stuff a pain too.

Yea, I had a NGD a few days ago, that one I got off Fleabay (the Hamer) This one was a pawnshop find, its actually been on layaway for a while, so I didn't just go out and buy it. I usually have 4 or 5 or more on layaway at any given time. I $20 them to death till they are paid.

Re: Another Pawnshop Find!!!!

Awesome find DC!!!!

The '86 RG's were the start of it all......without them we'd probably all be talking about our fenders....LMAO!!!!!

Not to jack your NGD, but I'm posting these pics so people can see the differences between the REAL original edge, and all the OE's were used to ('87 and later).

My '86 RG410 that Damien got me for my birthday:

Pics of the '86 OE as compared to a '90 model: '86 is on the left

LONGER studs on the '86:
