Another RG3120 Problem

Hey guys,

I have an issue with my edge bridge on my 3120. When i raise the pitch, the low E and A go sharp when i let go of the bridge. and when i lower the pitch they go a little flat. Any ideas?? I've played around with everything on it to fix this. I tightened the saddles. i made sure the nut was all tightened up. but i still can't fix it. I'm completely lost on this. I could really use any information you could give.

thanks

How frequently does the trem get used? If you have a relatively new guitar or even an old guitar with springs that haven't been "exercised" they can get stiff and make things difficult to keep in tune...at least that's been my experience with them.

To solve it, I never had to do anything more than flog the hell out of the trem for several minutes, really work it in a "Vai on crack" sort of way and stretch the crap out of the springs over and over again. Periodically, I'll do this with all my guitars if they start to have tuning issues that can't be explained any other way.

Again, this has worked for me every time when I experienced the problem you've described and I found nothing else wrong. That doesn't mean that there isn't something else wrong with yours, but give this a shot, hope it works...looser springs really loosen up the feel of the guitar too, it'll play much nicer after you flog the devil out of it consistently for a while.

Rich.. the second link you game me is exactly what is happening.. and my model is, i believe, a 2001. so the course of action is too change the posts and the knives of the trem correct?? is that very difficult to do?? I have a deep red model and i've thought about putting gold hardware on it. Will getting this replacement hardward from ibanez deal with this problem, or will i still have to get different posts??.. thanks

You'd be spending a small fortune in hardware.

The trem kits do have good studs in them now but the knives still need to be filled just like they would on the trem you already have.

Hello!

On this topic, you can read about my joy when filing knives and changing the studs on my jem90. Filing the knives are the most important though, but both helps.

Good luck
