Anybody know anything about the 540 Power - what's the rough

Hot on the heels of my recently acquired Saber 540 I get the chance to pick up a 540 Power for... well, for something, but I'm not sure yet  *

This one looks just like this violet pearl one on the Blue Ibanez site:
http://www.geocities.com/xcvxcv65/ib...banez-540p.htm

The original pups have been swapped out for a hat trick of SDs, but otherwise it's mint... The body shape is unique - I rather like it... What would you guys think would be a fair price for this beasty? Anyone besides me interested if I decide to take a pass?

oh... where's nuno when it comes to talk about one of his faves?

Jimi,
the 540 Power (along w/the 540 Power II) is one of the most beautiful creatures ever made in hystory. as you can see, she has a trapezoid section body shape, and there are two versions of her:

- one with H/S/S config
- the TC (Triple Coil) model, with only one pick-up built with three coils put together(!)

she was played by Satch before Ibanez came out with the JS models, as you can see on Satch's album covers N.O.T.E. and D.#11, also in the S.W.T.A. inner sleeve.
they basically sell her for about 600 bucks on eBay http://cgi.ebay.com/aw-cgi/eBayISAPI...tem=1522112501

if you want some pics i can send you a bunch, but to your email, not here on Jemsite.

Jimi,
if you can... don't hesitate!

Thanks for the info Nuno... This one's the H/S/S model with no tone control... I see now Satch has a white one on the N.O.T.E. cover... Cool

I'm going to see it Thursday, and then we shall see :-)

You sure about the $600? *I don't like the power as much as the other 2 (Radius & Sabre - I thought they all came out the same year in 87), so I'm not sure, but I thought I saw a few go in the $300 range. *Of course, one was a hideous orange...

The PII will run you $600, the P's are usually under $300-$350.

the orange one was simply awesome! she was a Triple Coil version!

well, i was talking about $600 cause i'm hanging around her from months, hence a bit of 'experience' about the 540P prices, but i never got a cent in my pockets!

Jester,
where the heck did you find one for $300!?! * oh my...

NOTE:
for anybody who's got pictures of the 540P & PII models, please send to [email protected]
thanx

The PII is considered the Skolnic model, the P is a nobody model. (just cause Satch used it in a video and some promo shots does not make it an early Satriani)

IIRC that orange one recently went for $300-ish, but I could be wrong - again, I don't concentrate on the Powers, but they seem to sell in the same range as the 540R and non-flamed 540S of the same vintage. *I dunno about the P-II - isn't that the one with the really long LOWER horn? *If so, I definitely don't watch that one. *As much as I like Alex's playing, IMO that is one butt ugly guitar. ;-)

Sorry to go off topic here but, what did Satriani use on the Not of this Earth album or before he started using a Radius/JS series ?

I recall seeing a Roadstar II series add with him in it back in the mid-late 80's. Whatever happened to that guitar ?

Tony

(please, don't begin going off-topic! 540P deserves to be talked about!)

Rich,
why didn't Skolnick officially endorsed the PII?

also,
why did Ibanez stop the PII production soon? lack of sells? too bizarre design for the time?

also(2)
how does the Triple Coil work?

(sorry but 540P & PII are too underrated, and ppl never talk about them...)

I don't know if Skolnick actually used the PII anymore than Satch did the P. I never understood why Satch gravitated to the P before the Radius, or why he was chosen to pose with it. Obviously alot of the endorcers were pictured with the guitars they played or wanted to be associated with, or the company wanted them to be associated with. It's up to Ibanez if they make it a 'signature' model or not.

the weird thing is that in the back cover of N.O.T.E. there's a pic of Satch playing live with a white JS (not Radius)...
endorsing is such a misterious world...

I sold my 540P for £250 last month.

That's what I bought it for. So good deal.
