Anyone here owns a RG 7420... - I want your opinion

I need a second 7 string with a Floyd. As most of you laready know, 7 string models have been discountinued by most guitar manufacturers. I already have an ESP LTD M207 that has been working fine for me.

I can't afford a Universe or K-7... And can't find any good deal on-line on those discountinued models...

So how is that RG 7420??? I've heard too many times it is crap... But i want some real comments from real users. Anyone here have been using a RG 7420 "Live"???

I tried the RG 7420 in a store. I tought it played great, the neck was not as wide as on my M207, my only drawback was that the pick-ups sounded a bit thin compared to those of my ESP...

Anyway, i'd like to hear from some of you.

Rock on everyone!!!

For what it's worth, I'd get a used RG7620 and forget the POS 7420. *That TRS trem isn't worth the aggrivation. *You can get good condition 7620's for as low as $300 used, and $450 new I think I read on here somewhere.

I have a 7420. I love the thing. I swapped out the stock pups for Blaze II's from a GR. Made a huge difference.
I also have a UV7BK and the 7420 and most times I pick up the RG. LOL *Am I insane? :loco: *I seriously love this guitar. Maybe I got the only good one. The CRAZIEST of trem work doesn't put it out of tune. I, of course, like the feel of the Lo-Pro more but I can't complain at all about the trem on my RG. The neck is yummy. The pups, now that I changed them, are yummy. *And you can get em cheap!!

I bought a 7420 like 4 months ago, and I can't stand one day without grabing it, at least to clean it! The thing is beautiful, and I think it's gonna last forever, maybe the pickups aren't perfect, but you can get some DiMarzio and you'll turn this beauty into a monster, go for it man.

I think it depends on how much you can handle with a trem.

When i was getting used to 7 strings I could deal with it. *After I started playing a Schecter C7+ with a fixed bridge the RG7420 felt totally rubbery to me. *I added springs and torked with it to try and firm it up but never could really get it to a point that felt solid to me. *I ended up blocking the trem and from there on in it felt fine to me.

Seriously though...if you have the cash for a RG7420 just wait a little longer and go with a used RG7620 or invest in a used K7, UV or RG1077XL.

the 7420 is a great guitar, once you block the bridge. I liked the feel of the neck.

how bout the 7-421?
the bridge is already fixed so theres no time going away to block the bridge (even if it doesnt take THAT much time )

The 7420 is great I think. I would like a Lo-Pro but obviously at that price its good enough. I do think that replacing the pickups would be good though. Im thinking about some EMG 707s or BLAZE II hums
