anyone play a recent Gilbert 301?!?

Sold my RGA121 due to my dislike of the thin neck. Id like to know if the PGM model now has the restige, or if it has the 2mm thicker neck. If so, it would be perfect for me.

I just picked up a JAckson SL2H and it's great, but id like something I can beat on a little and easily change tunings. I loved the RGA121 except for my hands cramping on the neck

The PGM is 18mm on the 1st and 20mm on the 12th and so was ur RGA. there'd be no difference size wise

Good suggestion - the AT neck is a bit chunkier and strat like than the Wizard neck. Still won't be as this as your Jackson baseball bat (Just kidding)

777 posts - woohoo !!!

You sure the necks are the same? They sure as hell don't feel it.

Yeah Paul's neck is more Ultra like isn't it?

I think this guy would love the Ultra profile.

one SMALL issue. I need a nut of at least 1 11/16 , I have STUBBY fingers and any extra width helps!

Ultra's are a 1 5/8 nut if im not mistaken!

Im almost thinking of going to an RG421 used if i can find one (i owned two royal blue ones in the past) great guitars but im always wanting more!

of course they FEEL different they're two totally different necks but the size is the same. they're both 18mm and 20mm I think all Prestiges, but I get what your saying how they feel totally different my UV is 19-21mm and so my firends S520EX but they're two totally different feeling neck's but the neck dimensions are still the same its the shape that makes them diff, and Andy timmons is 21mm and 23mm so that is a bit thicker than most ibanez guitars.

beyond neck dimensions, you have to consider radius too, which plays a huge part in how the overall neck is going to feel. wizard/wizard2/jem necks have a very flat fretboard (larger radius) while the js/at300 necks have smaller radii, or more of a curve to the fretboard. when ibanez releases new models, i always check on the neck measurements specs. 2 necks can have nearly identical specs when it comes to measurements at the 1st and 12th fret, but if their radii are vastly different, they they are going to feel completely different. i've found that i prefer about a 12inch radius, which is a good compromise between the strat/tele radius (which is typically anywhere from 7-10 inches) and the jackson/wizard radius (which is usually around 14-16 inches). to each his own, of course.

Re: anyone play a recent Gilbert 301?!?

And necks can be the same measurements at the Ibanez neck chart on there web page, but have a completely different shape, more or less C, more or less D and so on.
Witch completely changes the feel of the neck, even if the radius is the same.

I have played several PGM301 at clinics, where I change guitars for every tune, and my impression are that they feel thinner then most RG style Prestige necks (I know there are a couple of different ones). Most S style Prestige necks feels a bit thicker, even when they on paper are the same shape necks.
Most JEM also feels on the thinner side, and a bit more D shaped then wizard.

But all these impressions are not constant, I have three RG3120 with different shaped necks, not big differences, but noticeable, for example.
I have three Rg1527, two feels exactly the same, one have a 2mm thicker neck then the other two, and they are all from the same year (and same shipment).

Don’t know what I’m trying to say here… :-)
Maybe that one guitar of X model is not always the same as the next one.
