Anyone playing the Highway One Strat?

Just wondering... I got the Burst Highway One Strat about 5-6 mos ago...

I'm liking the jumbo frets, and the Greasebucket circuit is actually nice (kind of a traditionalist) as the high end roll-offs don't drop the volume like is standard......

Re: Anyone playing the Highway One Strat?

I have one of the older Highway 1 Strats, without the larger frets, and without the Greasebucket. But of my guitars, it is by far my favourite. Just great guitars.

I've always wanted to get one but never had the funds, but I do play one whenever I see one. Personally I love the whole stripped down feel that I get from them, the satin finish, unfinished necks etc.

i own the first generation (pre-grease bucket, non-fat headstock) H1 strat. i mainly bought it for its non-gloss finish which brings out the snap quite markedly. the default pickups is a hit-miss affair, depending on which Fender camp you belong to.

I actually want another one, with the larger frets and the Greasebucket. I'd add a Texas Special in the neck, and possibly a Floyd. It's a very honest instrument.

Nah. I want the big headstock, maple board, sunburst finish, and the classic Strat look with the pickguard. I'd be going for kind of a Texas Superstrat look.

Re: Anyone playing the Highway One Strat?

Short man (rotten kid) just got the forerunner of this (I think the only difference is the finish - but don't hold me to that) in 2 color sunburst (kinda tobacco-y to my eyes). All I know is that the price went up by $500 within a couple of weeks after he got his.

Really a nice guitar, and I gotta admit that I'm more than impressed with the N-3s and S-1 electronics.

Wow, never seen that one before. I dig the 3 dots on the 24th fret. Is that new?

EDIT: Nevermind, google is my friend. Showmaster isn't in production anymore.

Re: Anyone playing the Highway One Strat?

The Highway One Strat is the only guitar I've ever sold. (Um, out of eight total.)

After the Edge on my RG550, I couldn't live with the trem. Went out of tune after trem usage and heavily bent notes. I know there are solutions to this (the only one I can immediately think of is blocking the trem), but I just couldn't be bothered. Since the RG gave me enough of a Strat tone to make me happy, I just got rid of the Highway One.

Build quality was fine, nice neck, the satin sunburst finish looked and felt great. I guess I'm just not a Strat guy.

A Telecaster is one of the guitars on my "want" list, and I am looking at the Highway One and American Special Teles.

Oh, that reminds me: if you're one of those players who liked the idea of saving some $$$ on an American Strat but you couldn't live with the semi-gloss finish, the American Special is for you. I have seen several of these and they look fantastic. The red/maple Strat is stunning!

Peace

Mike

Re: Anyone playing the Highway One Strat?

I almost bought a used one in GC for $500...it was the faded maroon color with black pickguard and rosewood fingerboard. It was sharp looking...kind of wish I bought it!
