Anyone put a Tone Zone on a 22 fret S series?

I love the Tone Zone in my RG550 and would like to know if anyone has installed it in an older 22 fret mahogany S Series like an S540, S1540 etc.
Thinking of putting one in my S2120X, replacing the standard QM pickups... but wonder how it will sound, since unplugged the S2120 is much darker/rounder sounding than my Rg550 (maple neck).
Any thought would be appreciated.

Re: Anyone put a Tone Zone on a 22 fret S series?

Have you tried any other dimarzio pickups? Each to their own of course, but I have a tone zone in my RG, and personally for me there are a few Dimarzio pickups that I prefer. I will likely replace my tone zone with something else soon. I think the tone zone is a very versatile pickup, but I find there are other dimarzio pickups that are more suited to certain genre's. Your a lucky man, an RG and an S series! I would love to try the S. Its on my "to buy" list, its just a shame they are unjustifiably dearer than the RG's!

I've got a tone zone in my Destroyer,, mahogany body, 22 frets ( although a lot more wood there than on an S series) but it sounds great.. only way if you will know for sure is if you install and try it out, but the TZ is a pretty well liked Dimarzio.

I have Tone Zones in the bridge of 2 of my mahogany bodied
S Series (22 Fret) J Customs and they work great. I've never
thought about swapping them out. I know a lot of guys says the
TZ is 'muddy' in mahogany but that's certainly never been the case
for me, darker yeah but not muddy.

I agree. The TZ get's darker, but tighter in mahogany in my experience.

I changed the pickups in my 24 fret S Prestige with Lace Sensors, liked them better than the stock pu's.
