Anyone replace IBZ/USA pickups on their old S540LTD?

Hey guys,

I have a crapload of brand new DiMarzio's that I am trying to place into various guitars. Here are the pickups I am looking to place:

Air Norton or PAF Pro or Humbucker From Hell (Neck)
Steve's Special (Bridge) or Tone Zone (Bridge)

Al DiMeola Neck Model (Neck)
Megadrive (Bridge)

I also have a Super 3 laying around unused from my Fender HM Strat.

My ultimate quest for tone is John Petrucci's studio sound on "Images And Words". His post-I&W tone doesn't really excite me as I feel it is TOO warm and bass heavy. I know he used the HFH and TZ on I&W and switched to the SS and AN for the following cds, but I think the bassiness that I don't really like is more attributed to the basswood guitars he uses... though I am not sure. Anyone have any ideas which of these combos will get me the closest in terms of the tone I am after. The two guitars I am trying to outfit are:

1990 Ibanez S540LTD (HSH) (mahogany body) - stock IBZ/USA F1, F2 and C2 pickups

1991 Fender HM Strat (HSH) (made in Japan) - Alder Body, currently has the PAF Pro in the neck and Tone Zone in the bridge... need to listen to this combo again once I get the guitar back home, as I can't recall if this sounds too bassy to me. I am LEANING towards using the Al DiMeola and Megadrive in this one, ala Tony MacAlpine during the "Maximum Security" years.

Thanks for any advice you can throw my way.

Later,
Jeff in Houston

I put a TZ in the bridge of a 540SFM to good effect. Slightly more bass than the F2; sounded great.

My basswood Radiuses actually aren't that bassy; one is F2, C2, Carvin TB, the other is Duncan JB, DiMarzio HS2, Duncan lil' 59. My alder Yamahas have much more bass with their DiMarzio PAF Pros.
