Re: Anyone with the SAS?

Those guitars are definitely hit or miss. I've played some to where the body didn't resonate very well but the bridge felt really good and others where the body resonated alright to very good but the bridge was stiff as hell. As far as the pickups go, they aren't very good. I did play one of those models yesterday that had a pretty resonate body and the pickups didn't sound completely horrible and would be nice for certain styles of music but I really just don't like normal single coil pickups because they are super weak with no sustain.

Re: Anyone with the SAS?

in terms of functionality, the SAT Pro bridge needs a locking tuner compliment. IMO the single coils in the 36 fared better than the True Duo humbucker in terms of pleasant voicings. the latter sounds harsh, especially so with high gain settings.

Re: Anyone with the SAS?

Throw some Dimarzios into it and it would be a very nice guitar. I would put a Chopper in the neck, a Blue Velvet in the middle, and probably a Tone Zone in the bridge.

*superb feel/ construction/ fitting

*Single coils are sweet, True Duo might sound treble excessive to some. i'm keeping all pickups in tact as they sound very good through my Peavey XXL

Re: Anyone with the SAS?

It's not a bad concept but just like all the other stock pickups that I've heard on guitars under $1000 that are set up that way, they generally sound good coil split but the solid humbucker mode is lacking. But hey, if you like it through your rig then I don't see any reason to change anything.

Re: Anyone with the SAS?

refering to the $1000 price range, my encounters with the SZ units are all pleasant, pickup-wise. just goes to show that the manufacturer has the means to put good sounding pickups in their guitars.
