AX7521 pickups?

just got a killer deal on one of these, new for $200, which i couldn't pass up. so i've already dealt with the neck-heaviness, now for the pickups. the stock pickups aren't too terrible, but i haven't gotten the opportunity to try them out with my main amp yet. i need to have a bright, clear, powerful tone with good harmonics (need to make 7th-string pinch harmonics scream). my amp tends to get a bit loose in the bottom if you don't have a bright enough signal going in. i had a basswood guitar with a licensed floyd that i was using a pickguard-mounted Joe Barden HB in, and my amp had this slightly loose bottom thing with that guitar that i couldn't dial out. had no problems using the same pickup in my alder-bodied B.C. Rich Gunslinger with maple neck and fingerboard. so i replaced the Barden with an EMG 81, which solved that problem. so the obvious solution for this guitar would be the 707, but it's a bit more expensive than i can probably afford right now, and i'm not sure i want to get my guitar routed for them. so what would be a good, relatively inexpensive, standard-sized pickup for my setup and needs?

congrats on the guitar dude, the stock pups in the 7521 are waaaay better than the 7221. to match the emg 81s why dont u just get the 81-7s? or are they not avalivle yet? hope u have fun with it, get some really fat strings on there, its kinda tough to keep it clear with a 24.75 scale.

There's always the DiMarzio EVO 7. For what it's worth, they maim and cripple EMGs in my opinion, and the price is definitely better. If you want a brighter sound, you can always disconnect your tone knob for less treble roll-off.

i already took out the tone knobs, i do that on all of my guitars.

dylan...is the 81-7 different from the 707? i'd be particularly interested in that idea if they're a standard size.

It's different in tone, but not in shape and size. See it here.

There's absolutely no way I'd have the 81-7s in an all maple guitar. I think it's ugly, anyway.

i sent Dimarzio an email about which of their models would best suit me...this is what they told me:

I think the Evo 7 will be too thick-sounding to suit you. The Blaze bridge model (DP702) has considerably more clarity than the Evo 7, but the best choices in terms of both clarity and brightness will be either the Air Norton 7 or the PAF 7. I'm sorry, but neither is available with black polepieces.

the emg 707s are a cross between an emg 81 & 85 tone wise.

MetalWarrior, what do you think of the 7521 playability wise? Can you shred on it?

i like the playability, but i can't shred on it. then again, i can't shred on anything. however, i have seen someone shred on my guitar, so i know that it can be done, even with the thicker-than-a-wizard-7 neck.
