Bareknuckle pickups + J customs

I recently got a JCS20146-spf and the Bareknuckle Nailbombs sound absolutely amaaaaazing. It's the best feeling and sounding guitar I've played to date.

The Nailbombs handle gain beautifully - kicking in my Jemini distortion pedal (green side) on the dirty channel adds the perfect amount of extra juice and introduces almost no extra noise. No other pickups I have used (Duncans, EMGs, Dimarzios) have reacted to that setup quite so nicely. These pickups are lower output than Evos, for example, but with just as much fluidity and sustain. I think they sound a little smoother than Evos too, but less bassy, and they clean up distorted chords quicker as a result. They're slightly hotter than PAF pros, and with a Legacy 3 with the gain at 7, rhythm playing is crystal clear and leads are soaring - I love the balance. Clean tones are warm overall, but very clear. The sound has got sparkle, but it doesn't take your head off.

I have Dimarzios in most of my guitars, and they are great pickups too, but I really hope Ibanez continue to make some J customs with Bareknuckle pickups in. Do you guys think this is likely, or was the recent Bareknuckle collaboration just an experiment?

Cheers

Craig

Man that is a work of art there! Bareknuckle is certainly popular enough I'm sure we'll see more J-Customs with them.
Love the wall shot too - Used to have a 90HAM, what an excellent Jem!

Thank you! I'd love to keep the J custom on the wall since it's so nice to look at, but the internet has scared me... "Leaving it on display means the finish will fade"... "Wall brackets can damage neck finishes/binding"... I don't know how true any of it is, but until some well informed folks convince me otherwise, it's staying in the case :P

In the US, keeping your guitar in the case will stain your guitar

More scary possibilities to add into the melting pot...

I guess us UK citizens are lucky in that we are spared the humidity/temperature problems that you 'Muricans suffer.

By the way, Rich, this is the one from Ikebe that I emailed you about a few days back. Forunately - all is well Kind of disappointed I didn't get a J-custom case though... It's a plain Ibanez hardcase, red interior.

If you had the US case you could keep the guitar on the wall

Haha What do you reckon is the best way to store it?

Out of interest - why only in the US are the stains a problem?

Only the US has these cases.

I think the natural aging that happens is a beautiful thing and I've never had any issues with wall hangers and necks. They do make pretty furry covers for them though

Ahhh yes, my Dean is from an American dealer and it has that style of case. Got it back when the exchange rate was 2 dollars to the pound :')

I like other people's aged-look guitars, but I am always apprehensive about allowing it to happen to my own :P Then again, an on-show aged guitar is certainly preferable to a stained one.

Re: Bareknuckle pickups + J customs

I dont think bareknuckles are way better than DiMarzio, what I suspect happens...is that people take more time picking the right pickup for the right guitar because BKPs cost so much.

That being said, my favorite pickups are the Bareknuckle VHII and ceramic nailbomb. The Rebel Yell is AWESOME too.

No issues with those Hercules wall hangers. I've had my guitars on them for years. Nitro finishes havent been an issue either. Display and enjoy your beautiful collection.
