Beehive Knob Question

Hi,
I brought in a new guitar today (i will post a separate NGD thread when i get a chance to take some pictures). It has the old beehive style knobs (the guitar is a 1991 FGM100). This is the 3rd guitar in my collection that has these knobs, and the first I've seen with rubber o-rings on the knobs. My other two guitars with beehive knobs do not have rubber o-rings, so when i got this guitar I assumed someone had put them on for a better grip or something and that they weren't original. Now i'm second guessing and wondering if they originally came like that and perhaps my other two guitars are just missing the o-rings. I was searching the web for pictures and I see plenty of guitars without the o-rings, but also see some that appear as though they may have them but tough to tell from pictures.

Thanks

Re: Beehive Knob Question

The rings dry out, crack, and fall off. You can find them at plumbing supply to make them original again.

Re: Beehive Knob Question

Thanks Rich. Learn something new everyday, i didn't even know they were supposed to have rings! Needless to say I'm going to keep them on and find some rings for my other two guitars.

Re: Beehive Knob Question

I have two guitars too with the old school beehive knobs. After so many years they're al rusty and the rings are ****ty. As rich said, a trip to the DIY shop will score you some cheap replacements

It isn't, save a search on ebay, they come up very rarely indeed.

Re: Beehive Knob Question

The SGR knobs were hard gray plastic, not the metal beehives used on the guitars.

Hello Rich, you confirm what I knew, thank you.
So there is not a website who sells old spare parts?
