Been Wanting one of these for a long time...

Finally found the right specimen. NGD on the way a super clean RG550 DY. No chips or dents in the body paint, no neck pocket cracks, no nut crack, no fretware or fretboard stains. Only issue is some tarnished hardware, which will get replaced with good stuff I already have. I have had several 550's but never one of the mythical DY's....lol. I wonder if the neon will make me play better...sadly prolly not. Here is a prelim pic the guy sent me.

cool!! Congrats man!!! What year is it?? By the non-marked pups and lack of "RG series" I'm guessing it's an early square heel??

Serial was gone, but yes square heel, Im thinking late 87 early 88. I think the early 87's had black headstocks. Like you mentioned the v pickups aren't marked. When did they start putting the lettering on them 89?

I'm not sure, but yeah, I'd say '89 or '90.

I can't believe you found a pristine original DY........ nice job man!!! If you tell me you paid less than $600, I'm coming to find you!!!!!!

Lets just say I don't buy anything I don't get a bargain on...although I did pay more for this one than I have ever paid for a RG5xx. Not much more but a little....Oh and it came with OHSC and even the trem bar! But yes under 600 and from a GC no less.

I believe that is the model, I didn't get a pic of the case just took the guys word for it. I have some 550 cases I could put with it if its a 140 case, unless I luck out and get one of the jem style cases.

Wouldn't THAT be cool!

Either way, it's still an amazing find even in a 140 case. I like those too. That's what my first 770 came in back in '90.

You have a 20th reissue I take it? I will probably hunt one of those down one day also. Along with the 80's and reissue rfr.

And the awesome titanium reinforced neck. I've adjusted the truss rod only once since I got mine new in 2007.
