BEST ibanez prestige guitar for your money?

hey guys, i was in the market to buy an ibanez RG type guitar. i was wondering , out of the prestige line, which one is the best guitar? in terms of , quality, wood, etc... I like for a Paul Gilbert/Jason becker lead tone...I know their all great guitars but was jsut looking for an opinion...and i would buy a JEM but 1700$ would take up a little to long to save but i can do 1000$ or under. thanks

i had the same problem some time ago
finally i decided to get an rg1550, it's got freaking nice neck (feels like it's been made for you; played different types of prestige necks and liked this one the most (pretty thin, 3pc maple and what i love most --> maple fretboard), i was thinking bout switching the trem posts, but as i didn't encounter any problems i didn't need to. the PUs are fine, thinking of switching them with some dimarzios, but so far i'm fine with it.
you can customize this axe to a jem if you want
and for your tonal desires: the guitar is just a small part of it, get the right amp and you get that tone you want

maple is just the finest at all imo
since i played couple of wolfgangs i just fell in love with maple fretboards...
i always take that obvious difference when playing a nice fender strat with maple and afterwards one with a rosewood fretboard, it's like day and night!
the rg1550 isnt in production anymore, but u'll surely find some pics on the net

http://www.guitarpoint.de/shop/files..._rg1550bkk.jpg
found this one right now
i got mine last year i think, don't know exactly, feels like i own it for ages... over here in germany there are still a few avaible, there is also a new model, the rg1550fmt i think, it's got a flamed maple top, but i dont think it looks good with a black scratchboard, u know what i mean, when you see it

edit: now you don't have to scroll so far

If you're going to post a pic that wide, please post it as a link, rather than embedding the image in the thread.

Now everyone has to scroll horizontally to read the posts.

Oh man, I really wish Ibanez still had an RG prestige guitar with a maple fretboard.

Well actually the pgm does have a maple fretboard and rg body style, not to mention the guitar sounds insane~ Im sure you were meaning something more budget oriented though.

If you're talking about buying new, then I would suggest checking out the RG2xxx lineup. You're not going to spend but a little bit more than you would for like a RG1570 but you get Dimarzio pickups and a really cool finish.

Yeh, the RG1550 is a nice guitar. I really regret selling mine. Stock pups had been changed for Super Distortion (bridge) and PAF Pro (neck). Its a shame that Ibanez have stopped making them.

Re: BEST ibanez prestige guitar for your money?

I think the best Ibanez for under $1K is an RG3120 hands down. Mint examples run under $800 with a case. Less than mint are as low as $550 or so with a case as well.
