Best Midrange Ibanez?

I've got a buddy who has a fairly decent budget for a new guitar. He's going from an Aria Pro II Knight warrior (I gave that to him when I got my Jem, 21 years ago), and he doesn't play that much. Just a casual guitarist.

Outside of a used RG550/570, which I don't think he'll look for, what are some solid sub-700 new Ibby's that will do the job. Main music is Hard rock/metal. I don't pay much attention/try out mid range stuff.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

SZ5XX

MIM Strat

Les Paul clone

The RGT42x as rich mentioned is I think a fine guitar as well.

Yeah, he's a trem guy. Well, sort of... I don't know if you're familiar with the arria pro trem... It makes a start seem like it has tuning stability!

Re: Best Midrange Ibanez?

I think that the best midrange Ibby's could be the RG321, is mahogany with fixed bridge, with a pickup change it would be nice.

The other could be the S470, it has a good floyd ZR wich is much better than any edgeII or edgeIII from the RG's.

I think the the problem with midrange Ibanez guitars is the floyd rose (except for the ZR) except for that they are very good solid guitars

The Ibanez RGT6EXs are pretty nice. The necks aren't as good as the old RGT42s IMO, but they're pretty alright.

$700 is prettty close to a RG1570- that would be worth the little extra in the long run.

Re: Best Midrange Ibanez?

Check the RG2570. But see previous discussions of the favored Edge trem on the 550/570s. I recently updgraded and I decided in favor of the 550/570s based on trem. One can buy those and have a budget left ofer for pup upgrades.

Re: Best Midrange Ibanez?

Look if you are going to buy new and you want a trem equipped good Ibanez there isn't anything else to buy besides an RG 1570. If you're looking at used guitars, then there is a plethora of choices.

1570, 2550, or older RG5xx, 6xx or 7xx series.

Re: Best Midrange Ibanez?

So did Ibanez drop a "1" in front and re-brand the RG570. Looks just like a 570.

That's about the what I think he should be looking for.

The S520EX looks pretty decent as well.

Thanks for all the responses. Sure helps.
