Re: Best S Series with 24 frets
I have all variations of the S. The old 22 fret models are my favorite, just amazing guitar. I have both a 91 and 97 and they both are excellent. They have the lowest cost, best quality, and best playing necks. But you are looking for 24 frets.....
For 24 fretters I have an S570MQM which is indo made with a maple neck and it is a fine guitar. The equipment is great, body looks great, the fretboard was really good and the neck was nice. I am in the process of modifying an RG770DX reissue neck to fit becuase although the Indo neck plays well, the stiffness and quality of the Japanesse necks are far superior.
I had an Egen 8 which was OK but not as nice as my S570 so I returned it. I just didn't play that well. This is the only problems with the indo line is that some play great while some need help. So it can be a crap shot.
I also have a 2011 S5470 which is a very, very nice guitar and plays excellent, but at $1700 it isn't cheap, but I do like them much better than the Egen.
There are 2 new Premium models that are definately worth a look, I personnaly do not like the color selection on those. Have not tried one but had a premium RG which was close to on par with my s5470, but not quite as nice.
You may alos be able to find some older 2100 series model that are made is Japan, but look out for the indo/korea models that look very similar.
If you have the money get a Japan made S5470. If money is limited to $700 play a few indo to find a good one. If you can't play one first, save money for a premium.
That being said I have seen several used S5470 listed without selling for about $900 lately on eBay.
