Re: Best Sounding Guitar You've Played

The best sounding guitar I ever played was a D'Angelico New Yorker from about '52 or so I picked off the wall in the archtop room at Mandolin Brothers Guitars on Staten Island, NY. It was a full acoustic, not an electric. It was just beautiful, a real Stradivarius of a guitar. I wish I could have taken it home with me, but it was about 40 thousand dollars. Still, they DID let me play it, so I'm greatful for that. Nicest guiar store I've ever been in, as well.

Re: Best Sounding Guitar You've Played

There was an acoustic 6-string Taylor that I played once, about 10 years ago, that had a very rich tone. You could hear every bit of everything. I don't recall what model it was. I've wanted a Taylor ever since.

I also really liked a Takamine 12-string acoustic dreadnaught that had a black top on it. I can't find the model number online, but it was something similar to the EF-381C.

1st for me - ESP KH2 through a digitech 2120 then coloured by a Marshall valvestate.
2nd would have to be a Rickenbacker 330. True, it really is only great at one sound but, come on .... what a sound.

ESP Kami with Dimarzio Evolution pickup in the bridge.
Run thru a Boss GT3, Peavey 5150 Head and into a Genz Benz cab.

Re: Best Sounding Guitar You've Played

Hey Big Red,

Nice pic! I'm still waiting to develop some pics of my Lados. But I wanted to concur with you on the Seymour Duncan Distortions. I have used them on several guitars, as well. They went into my Jackson, a Kramer and everything sounded great with them. They're now in my Lados, of course, and they sound terrific. It's either the Parallel Axis or the TB-6 (both are great). If you want a nice smooth overdrive with a bit more sustain, go with the Parallel Axis. If you want a more "raw" tone, go with the TB-6. Nothing wrong with the DiMarzzio Super Distortion, either, actually, but I find DiMarzzio is a bit fuzzy.

Best I've played are:

Gibson LP Custom - I didn't really gel with the guitar, but the sound was awesome.
PRS CE24 - I have this tuned down to D and it sounds monsterous through my XXX.
Suhr Standard - the best Fender type tones. Awesome guitar.
Jackson SL1 - fitted with a XL-500 in the bridge
RG8527 - I love the tone I get from this guitar
