BEST WAY TO SHIP A GUITAR WITH NO CASE...

I just bought another guitar last night and the guy
doesn't have a case to ship it in.
He offered to separate the body from the neck,
which I think is the way to go...
What do you guys suggest?

Re: BEST WAY TO SHIP A GUITAR WITH NO CASE...

Blag a guitar packing box (inner and outer) from your local music shop. They're usually happy to let you have them - they have to pay for rubbish disposal and they don't want the boxes hanging around for all the display models.

Ship the boxes to the seller, along with a load of bubble wrap and loose cardboard.

Costs more but it's worth it.

Re: BEST WAY TO SHIP A GUITAR WITH NO CASE...

Taking the neck off is a good idea. It is less likely to get damaged and makes a smaller package which costs less to ship. If the guitar is shipped assembled the important thing is supporting the body so when the package is dropped on the headstock end the blow is absorbed by the body and not the headstock. A piece of rolled up cardboard around the neck padded with bubble wrap at the body works. The best way is to wrap the guitar in bubble wrap and strap it to a piece of thin plywood so the wood absorbs the blows from all sides. When it's all packed you should feel comfortable tossing the package down a flight of stairs. If it can handle that it will most likely make it through shipping.
