Bill Leverty's Pacifica

Hi guys and gals,

Around 1993 I came across a new Yamaha Pacifica guitar that looks very much like the guitars Bill Leverty plays.

At that time it cost around the $2000aus mark. It was pink in colour with a white sctach plate and maple freat board and had the same inlays as Bill's guitars. It had a double locking bridge and the one thing that realy stuck out was that the inotation could be adjusted under the bridge with an allen key. I have never seen one again since that day and would like to know if anyone knows what model it is and what was it like.

Thanks

Sanchez from Australia

Geez...Bill Leverty of Firehouse? Haven't heard that name for a looong time!

You can probably find some info on the Pacificas that he used on his website: www.leverty.com

Among other things, he's got a couple 912s and 1221s. 912s are great bolt on strat copies w/DiMarzio pups. 1221s are similar, but are 24 fret neck thrus.

I have 5 921s. They rock.

1221's are bolt neck, the 1421 was the neckthrough.. I almost bought a blue one years ago, but got an RG750 instead.

JESTER700:

How would you rate the Tremolo's on them as compaired to the Ibanez Edge or lo pro?

Thanks. Memory's failing. I love the inlays in the 1221, but as I prefer the 22 fretters, I've stuck with 921s.

Feature-wise, they rock. But overall, I like them less than an Edge or OFR. They have adjustable nuts...but they don't hold adjustment that well. They have great ease of intonation and a great design, but the steel is kinda soft. Still, mine stay in tune better for me than anything but an Edge, OFR, or Schaller. The arm mounting is very cool, but the arm's too short.

It's still pretty good, but it COULD have been the best with a bit more effort.

If the 1221 has the inlays like that are like Bill's then that must have been the one I saw. It is actually teh same as the yellow one's he has on is site, only the one I saw was Pink.

The day I saw it back in 93 I ended up buying an RG570 instead. The guy that was trying to sell me the Yamaha has it priced at $2100 and then offered it to me for $1200. Work that out?????

Would it be possible/worth it to have the tremolo replaced with an OFR??? Would there have to be additional routing etc?

1 of my 5 921s has a standard fender style bridge. 1 I got just the body & neck, with no bridge. That one fits a standard Floyd, and I'm putting a Schaller on it. It was sold to me as a 921 body, and seems so, but I have no guarantees. The other 3 have the Yamaha bridge, and the post spacing isn't the same as a Floyd or Edge. Not even close. Personally, I wouldn't try it. If you like th trem, it's a great guitar. If not, pass on it.

Also - check the neck. Although the feel of the Warmoth made neck is my fave in the world, their fretwork seems to get dodgy over time. Plan on a level & crown.
