Re: Blueberry Accoustic
How much was it? Looks very nice, something I would probably buy if it felt right and sounded good to me...How's the neck? Chunky? Also, how is the tone. I usually look more for a mellower warmer tone than the brash and brassy open sound. I also usually play with silk and steels on my acoustics, so...
I won it for 1050 plus another 230 for the pickup and strap locks installed by them. For a hand made guitar, and in my case, one that took 6 weeks to build, I think they are a bargin. They have a 10 day auction once a month on these. Usually around 2 dozen or so come to fruition at 5 min intervals. The price on them varies at auction. From what I've seen, they go between 500 and 2000 US. To do the buy it now, or order one directly from them, the prices are 2250 for an entry level, and 3850 for the higher end models. When they do the auction, they start with a 1 dollar reserve, so there are lots of bidders. Check out their bay store, as they always have some listed. As far as the tone, I have a 12 string Martin to compare it to, ( I occasionally string this as a 6 string), and it is definitely brighter sounding then the Martin. The Martin has more mids and lows than the Blueberry does, and not as many highs in the mix as the Blueberry. The sustain is as good or better than the Martin. It also was strung with some med light bronze phospher strings that gave it more high end. After "breaking in" the strings for a couple of months now, it has mellowed some. Strings will definitely affect the tone. The neck has Rosette/Mother of pearl inlays and an ebony fretboard. Nice. To my ears, I really like it alot, and at some point I will be getting another. They make one called "The Groove" that has grooved ridges on the surface of the guitar which "radiates" the sound in a unique way that a sound hole cannot. Innovative idea. The owner, Danny Fonfeder, has been a joy to talk to. He gave me his personal cell number. How many other guitar companies will do that for you when you buy one of their guitars. As well, they give a lifetime warranty and will buy them back if you ever decide to trade up or just decide to sell it. They very much stand behind their product. You can listen to some samples of how they sound, as each listing has samples to listen to. I love mine.
