Is this body MIJ or Korea? How to know?

So, I have this RG470 body. It does fit a lo-pro edge and doesn't seem like it's been modified at all.

What is this then?

I don't know, but my friend has an RG470 that's MIJ and it has the old square-heel neck joint. Did they make RG470s in Japan without that?

No idea. I mean, do the tremposts look like they've been modified? Because it's strange that the Lo-Pro matches in so well.

As far as I know (and someone please correct me if I'm wrong) MIJ bodies have the barrel style input jack like on the Jem, while MIK bodies have the oval shaped jack, so you can tell according to the input jack cavity.

Re: Is this body MIJ or Korea? How to know?

Yeah, it does fit the Lo-Pro, but to me, that route doesn't look like it was exactly intended for an Edge originally. Too rounded or something.

The comment about the barrell jack is indeed accurate for most RGs. MIJ's have a seperate, small cavity routed out of the back for the jack wiring which MIK's lack. However, I'm not 100% positive that this is true of the MIJ 470s. I thought I remember that they also had the extra cavity, but I'm not sure.

In any event, if I'm correct that that's not an actual Edge route, that would seem to make it an MIK body. It is worth nothing that I had an RG320 (definitely MIK) that was willing to accept an Edge -- barely. So that doesn't automatically prove anything.

Re: Is this body MIJ or Korea? How to know?

Depending on the year, RG4xx guitars were made in both Japan and Korea. They always came with a plate mounted jack, even the MIJ old heel guitars loaded with an Original Edge.

That rout looks rounded out on the low E side of the cavity, it's a clean job, but doesn't look stock. You can even kinda see at the bottom of the rout where the side wall used to be.

I'd say check the finish against catalogs to be sure which year it was made, and that will get you the country of origin in the process.

For what it is worth, my MIJ RG421 does not have the barrel jack like the 500 series.

Re: Is this body MIJ or Korea? How to know?

by the looks of the tremolo route, this guitar is a MIK rg that was equipped with a LoTRS II or similar. the rear of the tremolo route has been widened to accept a LoPro, and this is evidenced by the angle of the lines on the sides of the route. normally, these would be parallel.

Yeah the trem wasn't original, becuae I have a lopro stock on my RG and the route looks a lot different.

I have a question, does it really bother you, AD-Astra if it'S made in korea? It's just a body right?

Re: Is this body MIJ or Korea? How to know?

Just so you guys don't jump on the MIK thing, from 1997 to the end of the run, RG470's were made in Japan and came with a LoTRS-II. Just because it doesn't have an Edge stock doesn't mean it's MIK.

Eh, maybe it was a LoTRS 1, but it was a TRS. I've never bought any RG without an Edge.

BTW: The RG470 came in Titanium Ice in 2000, MIJ, which looks like the finish on the guitar in question.

Actually I don't care. Just curious. I have a body that fits the lo-pro well enough so that's important for me
