Building custom guitar

Hello

I am going to build my own guitar over the summer

the only thing is that I dont know how

basically it is a 24 fret gibson lp looking thing

ok it is going to have a set neck

everything else is basic enough except for controls

but first i need a place to start

are there any websites where I can get a set neck 24 frets ebony?

Re: Building custom guitar

You can buy a through neck from Carvin, and build your guitar around it if you want.

Re: Building custom guitar

Hmm, I'll be interested to see how you tackle 24 frets on a 24.75 scale setup if you are doing an LP style body. Not saying it can't be done but most of your short scale guitars are 22 frets. You're going to have to go with a much deeper cutout than a LP for 24 frets. Since you plan on a neck through and not a set neck, that should allow you to really carve the backside allowing better access to the upper frets.

Re: Building custom guitar

In terms of tutorials, I haven't really seen one.

I think that stewmac sell a 24 fret pre fretted and radiused thru neck. Just glue on some wings and off you go.

I could probably give you a rough tutotial to work from, but I suggest that you build it out of plywood (or something) first.

If you want me to do that that pm me.

Re: Building custom guitar

update

I am gonna make the neck and body seperatley

so if i screw up i dont have as much problems

fitting a 24 fret neck on a lp body is difficult

but how would I fix that so I dont have too much in the body

I am going to make it an aanj

I am also buying the book how to make an electric guitar by Melvyn His****

Re: Building custom guitar

warmoth is an idea,

get a neck with the 24 fret extension and omit the predrilled mounting holes so you can do what ever with an AANJ

and get an LP body with a single humbucky rout, attatch the neck, And rout the other cavity. i even think they have 24.75 in scale necks.
