Re: Can DiMarzio Air Norton and Steve's Special be ring-mounted?
It worked. The screws I used were 4-40 machine screws and nuts, and they were smaller diameter than the hole on the pickup backplate, so they could pass right through. On the underside of the plate I soldered the nut (I went with brass, thinking it would solder better than steel). Then the screw could thread right into the nut, pulling the pickup with it.
And it's completely reversible, if needed!!! :-)
The only problem I found is that the pickups are slightly crooked, side-to-side. The bridge side of the bridge pickup is leaning slightly toward the bridge itself, and the neck pickup is opposite (leaning towards the neck itself). In other words, one half of the humbucker is closer to the strings than the other half. How much of a problem do you think that would be for sound? I'm not sure why they don't want to remain centered. I may have to put something in there to prop it slightly, perhaps a piece of cardboard or something like that. Weird.
