Can someone please help me find/identify this guitar

I have searched high & low for another one of these guitars...and it can't find it.

One of my friends had one in high school.

It was a Aria Pro 2, Magna series.
When it was bought, the "story" was that it was a super high end $1200-$1500 guitar.

I'm sorry I have no pics.... (if i could find a pic of one, i'd buy it)

It was a RG550 shape, except the top kind of was a archtop.
Gold hardware
Abalone oval fretmarkers on a ebony board
Active electronics
24 fret
Floyd Rose
S-S-H Pickup configuration.

(His guitar was in the color of violet/purple)

I want this guitar in a baaaaaad way

How bad?

Just to give you an idea.... I have hired a part time private investigator to try to find my friend from high school, for the purpose of finding out if by some chance he still has this guitar. No luck so far.

Rich Harris?? Jemaholic?? Someone on Jemsite has to know what this guitar is, how many were made, and where I can find one.

Any help/leads/photos is so very much appreciated.

Re: Can someone please help me find/identify this guitar

Sorry guys, thanks but neither of those are it.

Jemaholic I know your picture is the newer Magna series....but thats not it.

As far as the one Buzz is playing, it doesn't quite archtop like that, and the shape is a little off.

Keep trying....if any guitar website is going to figure out exactly what this guitar is, how many were made, and where one can be had...I have no doubt it is Jemsite.

Thanks for the help guys!

Re: Can someone please help me find/identify this guitar

The "super high end" '80's Aria Pro IIs all came out of the Japanese Matsumoku factory, and believe me, they were all kind of average at best. Most weren't good enough to be called average, honestly. Don't go insane trying to find a guitar that can't hold a candle to an RG-550 or RGA, because when you do finally find it, it won't. Those guitars simply weren't that great, and that's why people stopped buying them and they stopped getting made.

I think your memory of the guitar's playability has probably become romanticized over the years, as in "absence makes the heart grow fonder". I'll see if I can help you find one, but don't go crazy laying out the cash for one without playing it first!

Cool Re: Can someone please help me find/identify this guitar

This seems close to your description but with different inlays and finish
knock yourself out!

The only references I can find to Magnas going back a ways are to basses. Check here and go through the catalogs and see if you may have the name wrong. You could also give us an estimation of when you think the guitar was made.

While we're at it, does anyone know what guitar Eddie is playing in Van Halen's Finish What Ya Started video?

"...... sooner or later ......

They all play ARIA ........

......... (because we paid 'em to.......) ........"

As Jim said, they ain't actually as good as you remember them - we all thought Ibanez Les Paul clones were "every bit as good as a Gibson - maybe better...." when my friends and I were young (back in the late 18th Century).

But they weren't.

Aria RS850, type it into Google Images to search to see if it's it. It's not a RG body style, but it's the only aria I've heard of that has oval inlays.

Re: Can someone please help me find/identify this guitar

I used to have one of those in a kind of wierd green and black strange paint job..... it was a decent guitar.... not sure if I would hire a private investigator though!!! I think I sold it because the trem wasn't as good as the Edge... The guy who bought it also bought a Tartan Yamaha from me a few years later.

Guitar had to be made 1990-1993 for sure.

Trust Me..... at the time, I had a very, very nice RG 550, and a this friend's older brother had a Floral Jem.... this particular Aria Pro was nicer than both.

It was set up like a dream.... ebony board.... active electronics..... it was either a neck through, or set neck (IT WAS NOT A BOLT) eventhough it was a Super Strat Shape.

It played as well, if not better than any USA Jackson Soloist I have ever pick up.

Re: Can someone please help me find/identify this guitar

My guess is that this Harmony Central Description is close..... he is saying his is a bolt?? And he's calling it a Magna-40?

Maybe there is a next level above this that is neck through/set neck??

Other than that.... every thing else is right about this description.

There is no doubt in the world that whoever/wherever another one of these maybe in the world, it could be bought reasonably enough..... but good god where can I find one?

Well, here's a Magna 40 - it doesn't have oval inlays, though. You can click on the thumbnail to get a bigger pic:
