Check my RT650 project, work in progress

Hi y'all.

I got a RT650 for a buck and a half in februari, and I really like the guitar itself in playability (Viper neck) and sound (alder, coilsplitting).
The problem is that I never really liked the maple veneer top, so I decided to get rid of it (the top, that is). I steamed the entire top off, and what I have now is the look of the solid Alder body, with the binding still in tact

Here is an old pic:

And a new one:

Entire album:

I am not really sure what I should do next... I really like the current look, but I could:
- Oil it
- Finish it with clear transparant coating
- Finish it in another color

What would you guys do with this one?

I really like it....very nice indeed!
I love that bare look and that "light" colour.

I know what you mean though about the finish. As much as it looks nice how it is, you still dont know what to do with it!
I dunno though, I would leave it but that just my 2 cents.

oo nice i think i'd oil it.

(btw how tall are you? looks really small in the last pic )

bit OT, is the RT comparable to an RG with different tremolo (i know different body/neck too )? wouldn't mind having one for drop D stuff.

Umm, I'm 1.72m, so that's not too tall. My room is 3 metres high, so that helps as well

I don't use the trem, it really stinks although it's a Gotoh. If you're used to floyds it sucks that this one doesn't stay in tune while being abused. I took the arm off, but to have it stay in tune I will have to block the trem.
With a stoptail on it this guitar would be a definite killer!

The problem with RT's is that they've only been around in 1993, so you have to be very lucky in order to find one. The RT650 and RT450-series are pretty nice!

From Rich Harris' site:
The top on mine was not half as nice as the ones on these RT650's...

One thing i really like about the RT body is that the lower horn is slightly rounded and visually matches the look of the upper horn. The pointy lower horn on the RG has always bothered me.

A nice honey burst might look nice on that alder body.

I adore my RT650. Check it out here http://www.geocities.com/sonicdefiancegear.

That is a nice job you did, I think it's quite an improvement. I think it looks great at the moment, but I think oiling would be sweet.

If mine had been like yours I wouldn't have changed it, I love blue guitars

Just like you I got it for practicly nothing (compared to the quality of the axe)! The neck is just UNREAL, having the same Viper profile and finishing as the JPM-models!

Yeah man, I dunno what it is about the RTs that people seem to be taken aback by. I adore mine. It sounds so clear through even the most distorted of Mark IV tones.
