Chibanez/Jackson, JS? and 1st Swirl

Hi, did a little work last weekend, took my old 94 Jackson dinky reverse & gave it a little makeover! The frets were nailed, deep grooves after 13 years.

Realised a Chibanez neck would fit after a bit of work

Then fanced a bit of body reshaping to give it a JS type feel, so after a couple of hours with a power sander

Then I though I try my first swirl

Wow!

That swirl is really nice and suits the new body shape.

Very impressive.

Have you done many swirls before?

Thanks, no it was my first. I saw the vid on here the other week of the GMC & thought I'd give it a go.

Nice job, but now you need to replace that old, black hardware, and pickups. All chrome should look sweet. Did you ifind the swirl that hard to do, since it was your first?

Ha, yeh the hardware is pretty shabby, but I love the trem it just never goes out of tune. Swirling advice? Test, test, test, which I couldn't be bothered to do as I couldn't suss out a way of cleaning the leftover paint without emptying, drying & refilling the dustbin each time. Paint was some little pot of enamel, filled a washed dustbin full of water, didn't use borax. Diluted paint slightly, pour on, give it a swirl, dip guitar in slowly, blow remaining paint to the sides with a hairdryer, before you pull guitar out. Leasons learnt - more paint needed, as it was running out by the time the guitar was completely submerged. Dip it slowly in one smooth motion or swirl will recover itself. Its got some water spots from drying, but then thatís why you pay for the experience of swirl masters like herc. Still good, fun enjoyed it, want to do another..

Yeah, I was a tad nervous, when I saw he started re-shaping it. But once it had a consistent finish over it, I actually dug it.

How is the Chibanez neck? I heard they have no truss rods?

Very nice work! I agree about the pickups and trem, and may I suggest taking the trem off and working it over with a tooth brus and some oil. You'll probably be able to get most of the rust off.

With a guitar as good looking as this, it would be well worth the extra bit of work.
