Clear Pickguard on a RG3120TW?

This is a "Catch-22".

I've played Strats for years and don't mind pickguards.

I'd like to keep my new 3120 in top condition as long as possible. Since it's now my main player, I've been tossing around the idea of getting a clear H-H pickguard ala the Jem77 series. Maybe even get a spare in "blue mirror" finish.

Of course then the guitar would have holes drilled into the maple top.

Anyone here tried this on their flame or quilt tops? Maybe I should just leave the guitar alone and stop being so picky.

Damn, I hate "new" guitars!

You could try to get a clear pickguard and attach it with 3M Double-sided tape. It's removable in the future, and wouldn't involve any drilling of permanent alteration to the guitar. OR...just get a sheet of clear cling vinyl at your local arts & crafts store and cut it to the right size. It's very easy to remove and works quite well. I've been using this method on my JS10th & Crystal Planet for quite some time and have had great results.

The cling vinyl sounds like a great idea.

I'll stop by the crafts store tomorrow after work and see what they have to offer. (Plus, there's always chicks in there!)

Thanks for shedding some light.

Screamjem: i'm in the exact same position as you - i just got a brand new 3120 two weeks ago (and loving it!! ) and i was contemplating the idea of a clear pick guard also - but i dont have an extremely aggressive pick attack so i decided against it ......... besides, if its your main player, its not gonna stay perfect for long!!

I'm really fond of pickguards, clear ones, pearloid ones, aluminium ones...

It's probably because of the RG550 that was my first "real" guitar that I feel so comfy with my hand the 2.5 mm or whatever above the surface of the guitar but still, it's how I am

In truth I'd be VERY tempted to add a clear pickguard to an RG3120, but I don't know if I could bring myself to drill the holes, which is probably why I don't own one.

I could never bring myself to drilling holes in my baby!!!

my 3120 is my first guitar without a pickguard - the "feel" of having your picking hand slightly higher wasn't an issue
