I am moving out some gear and don't know how best to liquidate a guitar I have had for quite some time, a RG2570E in 'Vital Gold', 2007. It has ghost shark fin inlays, the finish is textured, edge pro trem. Very little wear in all areas, including frets, original case. I know the gold textured finish is not a super popular one, as it does wear down much faster than any clear coat. Are these collectable at all? The neck is fantastic, and I'm not sure whether to sell the neck, body (with pickups), bridge, and case all separately or sell the complete package. I did very carefully add a poplar block in the trem cavity to make it dive-only. I'm not sure whether to remove it or not. Fully floating trems drive me crazy because one string break at a gig and you're either grabbing another guitar or playing on one string by ear to finish the song, and this was my live backup for awhile but I never used it. I know this is a forum and not ebay, and I hope I'm not offending any moderators, but I don't really know the Ibanez market at all and would just appreciate some comments on the guitar from those in-the-know. Thanks!
Hi,
I wouldn't call it collectable. It was produced in regular volumes, it's not a limited edition or anything. Seems to me like 2570 and 2550 are very undervalued on the market. They are overshadowed by 3000 series (especially 3120 that has a cult status) and they do not gather great prices for what those guitars are.
I don't like parting out guitars that are working, I actually tend to do the opposite, but generally speaking, you'll probably get more money in the long run if time is not an issue.
I see them go for around 600 euros in here, but have in mind that Ibanez are generally more expensive second hand on the European market. A good rule of thumb is that you can get for a guitar here in euros, what you would get in US Dollars in the US.
These are not collectible. Not sure where you are but in the US that's probably a $500-700 guitar including the case. Like you say, that finish isn't the most popular. People also tend to pay less for guitars with Edge Pro bridges.
The last few Prestige RG's I've sold have all been mint, no issues etc... but I've been shocked at just how little I'm getting for them on online auctions (with worldwide shipping).
Just seems that Ibanez isnt as popular as a brand as it once was, or the guitars I'm selling are just ugly, or perhaps unlike most of us on here - people arnt really that bothered that a Prestige is made in Japan when you can get something that looks very similar on the surface for half the money made in Indonesia.
I did wonder if the Genesis line is killing sales of the mid/top end RG Prestige line.
