Color codes

I'm considering a late nineties rg550. It has rosewood fretboard, wine red/dark red color and black headstock.

However, I can't find this model anywhere in the catalogs - actually I can't find much info at all regarding which finishes that was available for a given model a given year. The standard entry for rg550 in the catalogs seems to be BK (black).

I've probably missed something, but I'd appreciate if someone could direct me to some good source for model/year/available colors.

Thanks.

Re: Color codes

Thanks for the reply 249.

These two links is exactly where I have been searching for info, but I came up with nothing. Like I said in my original post, the catalogs doesn't seem to list all available finishes for the production year - in many cases the only color code listed for rg550 is BK.

Re: Color codes

I'd check out the serial number and then take the year and google it with RG550 "19xx RG550" or something, and see what colours come up.

It sounds like there are quite a few of that model in circulation so it shouldn't be too much trouble for you.

Re: Color codes

I've tried googling for the years but found nothing good. More ideas would be appreciated.

Re: Color codes

Do you have the serial number?

Even better (and probably simpler,) just upload a picture of it on here and I can guarantee someone will tell you what year, what factory, the middle name of the guy who inspected it at the factory, his kid's nickname, etc. etc. etc.

It's like Wikipedia, for Ibanez!

For many years the only color available on 550s in the US was Black. That was it.

That's strange, but it explains why the late nineties catalogs only have BK listed.

Thanks.
