Complete Ibanez RG270 DONE!

Wow, I can't believe how it looks, I painted it mirage green/purple and I still can't get a good pic to show the effect!

Heres a list of upgrades
>repainted body (plain grey to mirage green/purple)
>changed pickups (Ibanez R2 (roadstar?) bridge, Fender MIM single coil, stock neck. only bridge is wired)
>changed some stock black hardware to chrome
>swapped out that awful trem for a REAL Floyd Rose !

before paint job

heres before the trem changed

http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v681/ZOMB13/ib.jpg

heres how it looks now

The paint job was a b!tch, I dind't realise it would be should a hassle, but next time, I know what to do and not to do

Thoughts?

Yeah, a wee bit of patience and i'd say this is fairly good painting. Have you clearcoat it and buff/polish it?

I doubt it, he didnt even sand it LOL..

There is no excuse for not doing something properly. Im sorry but you posted it here for opinions and thats what im going to give.

You should of taken your time and done things right the first time. It looks bad, im sorry but its the truth.. If it were me I would say "man I shouldnt of rushed this" and take it down to the wood, seal it, and try again after reading some tutorials on painting.

Again I dont mean to sound harsh but im not going to sugar coat it and say it looks good when it looks terrible. I will give you credit for trying it takes some nerve to mod a guitar..

Might I also suggest replacing some of the rusty screws from the pickup rings and pickup selector. If you went through all the effort to strip and repaint the body, you shouldn't re-use rusty components.

Re: Complete Ibanez RG270 DONE!

I sanded the body, what I dind't do was fill in the crack, one cause I dind't have any bondo, and 2 cuase I was eager to paint it,

I did clearcoat it, but it ate the whole thing, Im looking around for a reliable clear coat that will heal right (unlike laquer).

And yes, for my next project, I won't rush into the painting process like in this one.

Maybe once the paint starts wearing off, ill repaint it a solid color, which are easier to handle.

Thanks guys for the honest replies, they are appreciated

and yes, I learned alot from this project and from here.

Well that is what is important on a project like this. Being able to learn from your mistakes is what makes you better, and everyone has a learning curve.

Re: Complete Ibanez RG270 DONE!

If you do redo it, make sure to strip it entirely. Don't apply bondo over two old coats of paint.
