Cool Ibanez Project is finished!!! pics included!

Hi guys

I've been modding my RT650 lately, the things I didn't like were the plain ugly maple veneer top (I might put on a new one later on). I steamed the old veneer top off to show the natural alder, and I oiled the alder afterwards. The rest of the finishing (including the binding) I left intact. Furthermore I changed the singlelocking Gotoh bridge (which I hated) to a golden Gotoh stoptail (PGM-style ). I also changed the chrome Gotoh tuners to golden Gotoh's. Furthermore I put pickup-covers on all pups (I don't if I'll keep them though)... I love the Viper neck, so I decided to change everything around it that I didn't like

It originally looked like this:

This is how it looks now

More photo's can be found here: http://www.freewebs.com/anders_desti...650project.htm

I think the changes were for the better (I already have a few lo-pro-equipped guitars), what do you guys think?

Very nice - I love the plain wood finish. I'd get rid of the pup covers though.

I think the white pup covers look pretty classy. Nice work!

Looks cool!

But oiling the alder pretty much eliminates any possibility of either laminating another top to it or applying any other kind of finish to it in the future.

That puppy is just begging for aged cream-coloured, exposed-coil pickups and controls.

Very nice, but change this pickup covers, put some nice open-coiled cream ones in like Petie said. They ruin it really. But I am not being nasty, overall it looks very nice, I prefer it with the hardtail bridge.
Nice Work!

Great job and nice look! Taking off the veneer sounds like a great idea!

What type of problems will I get if I decide to put a new veneer on it?

I did not use tusk oil it yet, I've used furnish oil which does not go too deep into the body (at least I hope). I think I will put a new veneer top on it in some time, I hope I will get it done!

Thanks for the reactions everyone!

I am going to remove the puprings (I don't really like them myself too, but I had them lying around anyway). A project guitar is never finished
