Crazy month... Pacifica & Yamaha shredder content!

Let's throw this months acquisitions up here...

Got these a couple weeks ago:

Yamaha Pacifica 921
Yamaha Pacifica 1221M (this will be getting stripped and refin'd)
Yamaha 1230S

The 1200 series have necks so thin, they'd make an Ibanez RG550 cry cuz it feels fat. Just a tad wider though. I love these guitars. I used to have a bunch of them about 10 years ago, and had always regretted selling them. Sleepers for sure.

Here's this week's adventures:

Love these things...

First up is a Pacifica 721. Came with a jacked up selection of pickups...really jacked. The nut had been replaced and shimmed with some softer cardboard too, so that got fixed as well. I found out I can't wire a 5-way switch to save my life, and hey - who uses the middle single anyway?? Now it's a 3-way, and the middle single is a dummy. I stole the PAF's out of my Pacifica 1221M which will be away for paint and upgrades in about a week. I also took the tone knob out of the picture, and moved the volume knob to that spot to get it out of the way. Sounds and plays LIKE BUTTAH!! It's a bit of a road dog, but it plays awesome, so who cares, right?

Next up, a Yamaha RGX 621D. The neck is a little thicker/rounder than the Pacificas. Very much Wizard 2-ish. Stock pickups are staying in. I don't know what they are, but they do the job. Trem is solid. Neck feels great, and I love how big Yamaha's frets are. Scalloped upper register. Cool finish. It has some scars, but again, I kinda dig it. Gotta have a few guitars with "the mojo"...

Dude my first guitar was a Yamaha Pacifica 112. I still love the high end ones, and would love to own one. I wish Yamaha still made them. Cool guitars!!

I have a yamaha RGX121SJ which I still love playing. Yamaha made good guitars but too bad they are really under rated.

Yep. And a lot of the parts are proprietary, so if they wear out, you might have trouble repairing and replacing.

Even the cheapies are way better than their "big name" counterparts though - usually by a wide margin.

Here it is my old rgx121SJ, very comfortable neck. Still searching for a good pickup to replace the bridge and neck. Currently using breed bridge and YJM neck no middle pup. The breed is ok, I don't love it I don't hate it either. It replaces the tone zone cos I just wanted to try the breed bridge. The YJM is nice but too low output to match with a higher bridge pickup output. So off they go.
