Crystal Guitars 8Ball (Acrylic Les Paul)

I thought some of you might find this interesting. This guitar is a beast. 15+ lbs of pure awesome. The tone and playability is unbelievable. I feel like I can channel Jimmy Page through this thing

Crystal Guitars are/were made by a guy in Detroit since 1996. He appears to be going out of business because cheap China-made Galveston acrylic guitars are taking all his would-be customers. This guitar was made in 2000 and is slightly used but in great condition overall. The certificate says it's the second 8Ball he made (he also made Iceman and Flying V shapes). It's my first non-Ibanez since the Hamer Slammer I started on 13 years ago and I love this thing so much I doubt I'll ever get rid of it. Dude knows how to make a guitar. On top of that I got an absurd deal comparable to the price of a new Galveston.

Re: Crystal Guitars 8Ball (Acrylic Les Paul)

Thanks

@Shockme It seems to be quite scratch resistant. It does have shallow surface scratches like most 10 year old guitars would have but as you can see in the pics it doesn't really affect the transparency. Also I'm guessing it would polish up nicely with some acrylic polish.

The only thing that worries me is that there's a small neck pocket crack..

Oh and I'm not sure about the pickups.. Is there a way to identify SD's?

Pickups are "Duncan Distortion" in both bridge and neck. They sound great w/ lots of feedback just like I like 'em.

We're Ibanez fans...clear guitars? been there, done that.

Just joking, by the way. It's nice but I don't like Les Pauls

Lol.. Out of all Ibanez's the JS shape is probably my least favorite (sorry Satch). Although that one probably weighs about half as much and doesn't leave a bruise on your chest

That's awesome! Their website says prices start at $2k?! If you got it at Galveston prices then it would definitely be a worthy investment if the quality is good...that Galveston stuff looks like garbage and their always selling their broken ones on fleabay.

I know I was shocked that nobody was trying to outbid me. It came from a large music store dealer who seemed to just put everything up for auction starting at $9.99 with no reserve. I don't know if it's 'worth' $2000 as a guitar, but I'd definitely put it in the $800-$1200 range. I checked out the website and saw the retail price so I put in a max bid of $400 and ended up getting it for $340 shipped with the hardshell case. I was all giddy watching the clock run down to 0s

As a collector though I think it's definitely a cool piece to have, especially if he goes out of business. I actually felt kind of bad for getting it so cheap that I was considering buying one of the bodies at retail just to support the guy.

I really need to find a scale so I can officially weigh it, but if I play it for a bit and then go to pick up a different guitar I end up almost throwing it at the ceiling
