curious S-series guitar

I recently purchased the following guitar on a suspicion that it was an S470-however, it has some has some unexpected features:

serial number is: F025007
pickups: V1/s1/V2
Edge trem.
colour: black
chrome hardware-including Gotoh machine-heads

what is this?!

Maybe a 1990 S540 that someone swapped the pups on? Does it look 2 years old or 12? ;-)

Sounds like a great buy, if you paid a 470 price for it!

I think back then, in early 90's the S400 series actually came with the edge trem. They had models including the S440, in SSH pickup config and the S450 in HSH, with V1, S1 and V2 pickups, and a chrome edge trem.

The latter matches the description you give so I'd place my bets on it being a 1990 S450.

Oh and no, even though the model number ends in a "50", the S450 didn't have a scratchplate. I don't think any S series guitars have had scratchplates

I didn't realize they used V series pups on 400 series guitars. I thought V series were replacements for F series in later (mid 90's) guitars.

...learn something every day... ;-)
