dean 7 strings...
just got the mlx7 not ten minutes ago... * *
first some background info on myself. i have been playing guitar for five years, 7 string for 2.5 years. i also have been playing 5 string bass for about 3.5 years. the first band i played in was a highschool jazz combo, so i've had lots of theory early on, though reading music is still an insurmountable challenge for me... *anyway here it is.
so far so good... * a few minor flaws in the finnish and the back of the neck... *the first thing it did when i wore it with a strap was lean toward the (heavy) *headstock... its very loud when its unplugged, and the sound and playablity out of the box is pretty good... *looks like it might actualy be better for jazz than my ibanez... *massive body... * yeah, lots of flaws in the finnish, just found a big dent in the lower tip of the V... * *came with a 6 foot cable and a couple of allen wrenches... *frets are done pretty cleanly, the fingerboard is painted... *not sure why... *on the truss rod cover, the words "ML-X7"... this thing is BIG... * i'm having trouble determining if the serial number is a sticker or engraved... * plate at the (big, square) neck joint is engraved with "Dean" in sort of a diagonal signature style font... *jack wiggles alittle bit... * hopefully this won't get worse... *the neck needs *slight* adjustment... * grover tuners on a V shaped headstock in a 3/4 arrangement feel very solid... *has GHS strings... *dot inlays on fingerboard... *frets seem to be medium, *slightly* smaller than the frets on my rg7621... *the neck feels pretty good... *needs some breaking in though... *nice and round on the back (good for me, don't know about you)
in conclusion, i would not pay $500 for this guitar. which is why i paid $200 with 2nd day air:biggrin: * this is denfinitely NOT a sredder axe... *nor is it realy appropriate for playing like KoRn... *it is however good for playing Pantera, Metallica, Phish, Jazz, and maybe some jam band stuff... *though the shape of the guitar might send a weird message to people at a jazz club... * *the body is very resonant, and the sound is pretty good and punchy with lots of warmth... *the shape is VERY different from anything else out there, and the feel is alittle akward at first, but i was able to adapt to it rather quickly... the guitar weighs nowhere near as much *as i was affraid it would... all of the major flaws seem rather superficial, so if you just want a guitar to have fun with but sounds decent, then this is the guitar for you. if you can still get it for $200 (with shipping). *i'm VERY happy with this guitar... *though i have been a big fan of dimebag darrel for about 10 years... *
i will post more comments as they come to me
